Pelosi won't back off Bush condemnation

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco rejected Republican demands Thursday that she apologize for her strong condemnation of President Bush, as raw nerves over Iraq collided with raw politics on Capitol Hill.

Republican leaders accused Pelosi of taunting the troops, inspiring the enemy and putting American lives at risk by telling The Chronicle on Wednesday that Bush is an "incompetent leader'' who lacks the judgment, experience or knowledge to make good decisions.

Pelosi stood her ground, telling reporters that "the emperor has no clothes." With the violence in Iraq threatening to overshadow all other issues in the coming election season, each party claimed to possess the moral high ground in setting the rules for debate.

The dims are out of power because of stunningly incompetent leadership. The reps are in power because of competent leadership.

The Nancy Principle at work. She has risen 5 steps above her level of competence and did it all while OD'ing on Botox.

>>The reps are in power because of competent leadership.

Huh? The Rep Leadership in the Senate is oxymoronic at best.

The Dems can lock up the Senate on a moments notice. That is hardly 'incompetent leadership.' And the Pubs won't do anything about it; that is not 'competent leadership.' Check out the Judicial Committee and Judicial nominations over the last three years.

It's true. There is only one cure. Stand for election yourself and show them how it's done. Seriesly, they are a bunch of amatoors, and the only reason they are there is their opponents are even less inspired.

You have good grounds to laugh at her. Very loudly. I saw a clip of her crazed speech today on the local news. She was very wide eyed and sounded like what the ancient Greeks called a harpy. Never have I heard such vile hate speech coming out of the mouth of a member of Congress.

House panel erupts into bickering over Iraq

Capitol Hill-AP -- There were some sharp questions, answers and remarks at the House Armed Services Committee hearing today -- and most didn't involve those testifying.

Joint Chiefs Chairman Richard Myers and two other top generals sat silently when their testimony was interrupted by a squabble over the prison abuse investigations.

Florida Democrat Kendrick Meek complained the committee hadn't done enough to get information on the probes -- and asked for more hearings.

Committee chair Duncan Miller pointedly replied that the panel held more hearings on that topic than any other -- and asked Meek if he was there when Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld testified.

Florida Republican Jeff Miller later criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's comments yesterday about President Bush. California Democrat Ellen Tauscher (TOW'-schur) fired back at Miller when he interrupted her comments later, saying he should take his political games outside.

I guess there are a lot of traitors in this country, then, because an awful lot of people say the same things she's saying. Some of those "traitors" are old-school conservatives like my grandmother.
