Ever go out with someone only to realize your date's a hybrid car-driving environmental activist, when your philosophy is, hey, you only live once? Or the other way around?
Such polarizing issues are the force behind RepublicanSingles.com, DemocraticSingles.com and SingleRepublican.com, new Web sites that aim to narrow down the online dating minefield to people who share common political views.
"With the war, people are getting more politically minded, especially in an election year," said Tony Sandoval (search), CEO of California-based Terra9 Singles, the company behind RepublicanSingles.com and DemocraticSingles.com. A significant number of people know they want to find a Democrat or a Republican.
The three above-mentioned sites, all of which launched in the last six months, challenge the "opposites attract" mantra by separating John Kerry supporters from Bush-Cheney enthusiasts and operate on the premise that when it comes to finding love, donkeys dig donkeys and elephants prefer elephants.

I took the e-harmony test twice (thanks to variations on my e-mail address). The first time was with some conservative values. I was considered dangerous (as in criminally). The second time I spoofed the test as a spineless liberal metrosexual. The second pass passed! What does that tell you?!?!?!?!?
Oh my goodness!!!
So much for my theory...
I just took it as a proto-typical neaderthal (looking for physical beauty over anything else, could care less about my partner's feelings, highly competitive, into cars and sports and not much else) and passed just fine.
I doubt I'll get many matches, but you never know. I think it takes a couple days to get the matches set up.
Thats good. You are a fortunate man.
I have a few liberal friends and get along with them well enough. Like you and your wife, we are able to set aside our political differences most of the time. I even dated liberal women when I was younger. Even so, I don't think I could be married to someone that was in favor of having the option to kill her own child.
That said, I don't imagine all liberals are pro-abortion / pro-choice.
I don't mean any ill will toward your relationship with your wife. I think its a great thing that you are devoted to each other.
Sublime truth...
Only a woman can win a contest by cheating, and then revel in the sense of accomplishment.
Liberal wives are like children...the older she gets, the smarter I get.
Dad always told me not to get married until I found a blonde nymphomaniac, with a degree in mathematics, who owns her own bar, and can fly a jet plane.
When so many women choose men like they were considering a stock purchase, they shouldn't wonder why so many men choose women like a drive-thru "value meal."
She's even more conservative than me on some things!
You've got that right, brother. It makes for an all around miserable evening to discover the lurking liberal in that cute girl sitting across from you.
My advice? No blind dates. Ever. Always have a good long conversation or two over the phone before any face-to-face meeting.
I just talked to a prospect recently...we talked for a bit and as soon as I mentioned the fact that I have guns, she started in on the dangers of guns, guns kill children, etc.
That was it for me.
How about a "dating" forum on FreeRepublic???
Bravo? Well done???
I guess it depends on what the "some things" are.
4 matches and 1 request for communication as the Neaderthal. Hmm.
I've got an inbox full of women,....I don't know man....I got divorced from a total PAIN IN THE A$$ woman last year, and Im loving my single life. All my money and time belongs to me.
Women are just too much work and too expensive. And for what? Just so you can get sick of each other in 5 years?
think Im gonna be a bachelor the rest of my days.
Less than 5 years, my friend. I think I'm with you...the negatives outweigh the positives.
I like my space, but I like women too. Given the choice, I'll take the space.
But hey, I'm in "recovery", so who knows what will happen.
When I was fixing to get married the first time, all the old timers said not to do it.
I did anyway.
Now the remarried guys are saying not to do it - again.
Think I'll listen this time!
LOL. Mr. Mew and I started out in a mixed marriage, but I have since come around to his way of thinking :)
Let's face it, he's right. When it comes to sleeping with a woman (drop dead gorgeous or not), the newly relocated brain of a man is not interested in her politics. He will be voting the "hardline, straight" ticket of whatever she's voting 'til after the fact. Future encounters will be totally dependent on how well she "performed." If well, I doubt politics will come up right away. Perhaps after the first blush has paled those waters will be tested.
