FORT WORTH -- A janitorial service company and seven employees are accused of compromising security at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport by hiring illegal immigrants without doing background checks and giving them access to secure areas.
Named in the 41-count federal indictment handed up Wednesday are Midwest Airport Services; its president, Karen Sue Rowell; and six employees.
Most are charged with conspiracy to unlawfully employ illegal immigrants, conspiracy to harbor and shield from detection illegal immigrants, making false statements, fraudulent use of a Social Security number and fraudulent use of employment documents.
If convicted, each faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine per count.
Midwest Airport Services, which provides janitorial and cleaning services to major airports throughout the United States, has had a contract with Fort Worth-based American Airlines at DFW Airport since 1998.
According to the indictment, Midwest hired illegal immigrants and concealed them by falsifying employment and security documents, "all for the purpose of commercial advantage and private financial gain," U.S. Attorney Jane J. Boyle said in a statement.
Midwest also disregarded government notices from 1999 through 2002 that said at least 372 employees were using Social Security numbers not assigned to them, the indictment alleges. In 2001 and 2002, Rowell told illegal immigrants she would warn them if immigration officials tried to raid Midwest, according to the indictment.

???? I thought they only picked lettuce.
Sounds like the U.S. government.
"It is unclear where Segóvia was born or how old he was."
Ah yes, journalism at its finest.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
City inspectors issued in the past four violations against Marine Development LLC of Yonkers and its owner, Steven Eickelbeck, who is erecting 64 condos at the site. The violations charged them with working with expired construction permits, records show.
Eickelbeck told The News. "I don't believe there are any structural violations outstanding right now."
After yesterday's collapse, the Buildings Department charged Marine Development, general contractor Big Apple Development and Construction, and steel company Pro Weld Fabricators with failing to erect the balconies the way they were designed in construction plans.
In the plans, the balconies are recessed, but they were built jutting out of the building, as if almost floating in the air, Buildings Department spokeswoman Jennifer Givner said.
Cheap but not inexpensive.
Let's not stop at the Airports, no, lets go after all of the contractors and restaurant owners who employ illegals. It's a shame to say this, but America is wrapped up with illegals and all the business' depend on illegals. Kids today, do not know what hard work is. All they are told is to go to school; that is the only way to succeed in life.
Rather like the proverbial cheap head of lettuce.
This is similar to closing the barn door after the horse is out. It is fortunate that these individuals were only Latin Americans rather than Al Qaeda.
Say it aint so!
They're only doing jobs Americans wouldn't do.

My guess: this is a "meebie-weebie" or minotry-owned/woman-owned affirmative action contract. Such contracts are allowed to be 5% higher than a white or male owned business and still win the bid.

SoCal bump. How about a little border sanity already?
It is even MORE DISTURBING that we have a national immigration policy which encourages this kind of thing.
In the end, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.
