May 20, 2004 -- Rudy Giuliani yesterday delivered a passionate defense of the city's response to the World Trade Center attacks - and denounced finger-pointing by members of the 9/11 commission. "We have to channel our anger," the former mayor calmly told the panel as it wound up two days of hearings in Manhattan. "Our enemy is not each other, but the terrorists who attacked us."

It should not be and should never have been about "blame" because people go into "cover your ass" mode and then we learn nothing - it should be about investigating what procedures worked or not on that day. That's all - simple.

Glad to see that someone finally told these @!%#^!# on this partisan election year witch hunt of a commission to put blame where it belongs -- the terrorists.

If I told anyone that two planes were going to strike into the Twin Towers and that the buildings would crumble to the ground hours later on 9/10/2001, no oone would have believed me.

The bottom line is that the firefighters and policemen who put their lives at risk (and sadly sacrificed their own lives) and came to the rescue of 25,000-plus people at the WTC that day did a tremendous job under the circumstances. It is appalling to me that these has-been politicos on this commission can second guess and finger point at the same people who saved countless thousands of lives that day.

This is the New York Post we're talking about, not some swarmy liberal rag like the Slimes, where the headline probably was "Guliani leaves questions of 9/11 victim's families unanswered."

You would think the families of the victims would use their energies in fighting the terrorists in every way possible - not in trying to destroy those that did all in their power to help that day. What utter ingratitude.

Makes you begin to wonder if greed is behind their actions. If so, what an utter insult to all those all over the country that contributed to them. I am daily losing respect for those who act as these are acting.

Or politics, similar to Nick Berg's father.

Let's take the whole blame game to a conclusion. Since the families have long since gone beyond blaming terrorists for the loved ones deaths, and have gotten to the point of screaming at Giuliani about the radios not working, why not blame their own loved ones for putting themselves in the vicinity of the WTC on 9/11? Shouldn't these 9/11 families be angry that a) their loved ones worked at the WTC, even though it was already once the site of a terrorist attack, or b) their loved ones worked for the fire or police department, even though the job could cost them their lives?

I'm sorry if I appear insensitive for saying this, but I'm so sick of hearing the most well-compensated victims in the history of the world blame everybody else in the sun but Islamofascist terrorists for their loved ones' deaths.

I think a lot of this finger pointing is ridiculous. Besides being a partisan witchhunt, the 9/11 commision is playing Monday morning quarterback. They forget that there were humans dealing bravely with a catastrophe.

The 9/11 attacks pale in comparison to anything the city could have reasonably practiced for. I'd like to see how some of the 9/11 commision would have responded.

I do wonder about the greed that you mention. Their behavior is shameless..Does anyone know whether they are pursuing "kazillion-dollar" lawsuits against the city of NY? To try to transfer the blame for 9/11 to those brave firemen and policemen and to Rudy is so illogical and is really going to create a lot of anger in America.

"The 9/11 attacks pale in comparison to anything the city could have reasonably practiced for. I'd like to see how some of the 9/11 commision would have responded."

"Arm-chair" critics are almost never capable of taking care of the job they critcize others for doing. It is an especially despicable trait in politicians. It has been my observation that those who practice this the most will work the hardest to avoid taking real responsibility for anything. They will play both sides of any fence in their efforts not to be found having to be responsible. 9/11 was a total surprise. It was an unimagineable event in the life of this nation and we had better not pummel the people who were put out there to protect us because the next time, they might decide we are not worth the risking of their own lives for. Having the knowledge that some of your countrymen/women will, after the fact, blame you rather than the perpetrator for the atrocity would cause you to think twice about how to do the job at hand in the future. The leftist media, the anti-Bush politicals gangs, the Catholic Church leaders, the activist 9/11 family members, France, Germany, the United Nations, Michael Moore, and others like them are going to bring America down. When we are destroyed as a nation, will everyone benefit? No! The world at large will lose and era of physical, mental and spiritual suffering will be ushered in which will turn civilization back for perhaps, centuries. If my family was having a problem, would it benefit us to ruin and destroy the family in the eyes of those who want it plundered? That is what is going on in our country and I am really depressed about it. I am painting the bedrooms in my little house, I am exercising, I am playing music and trying to stay strong but it is difficult when I hear even O'Riley pound and pound on the Bush administration while hardly mentioning the big picture.

I'm sure it is. Although I've read that there is only a small percentage of the "families" doing the complaining and protesting. Still, it makes them all look bad.

The communications systems were never designed to take that volume of traffic. I doubt any system in existance could. Local 911 systems could never begin to handle that volume of calls. They are nearly swamped with the routine calls they get much less the extremely increased volume they would get in this kind of war emergency.

A lot of those families were made Millionaires that day.

They shame their spouses who died with their bitter Haranguing.
