I don't think you can blame the Venezula. Chavez wants to pump a lot of oil. It is just that a socialist run oil company simply is inefficient and they can't. It is a lot like old russia where the oil fields decayed for lack of equipment. Socialist don't understand that to get money out, you have to put money in.

I worked for them in Texas, and I never saw ANYTHING to represent it was foreign owned.

Unfortunately, that leaves the other oil "money grubbing" companies that much richer. United we stand divided we fall. In a unified voice and action, people that don't buy gas today can possibly send a message. Not a big but a small one. Maybe next month, more recruits will join in another one-day protest. Following month, maybe even more. At some point, the message will be noticed.

Then when the oil companies have lost the ability to supply the fuel, of the type needed, as needed, where needed, when needed, because of this really stupid stunt, and change the way they do things so that the problem doesn't occur again, the Govt can nationalize the companies, Right? They could do a real good job, and I am sure at a lower price. Tell me about it. You go anywhere, anytime and they have gas for your car. New York, Wolf Point, Denver, LA, Conrad, Shreveport, Topeka, Paduka, Sawgrass, Botsville, Gilroy, Bar Harbor, Eagle Lake, Lovell, Stewed Bend, San Angelo, they have the fuel you need. Damn, that is a hell of a system. Sure, They make a profit, and to make the system work, they probably have to act in concert with each other, but I leave Salt Lake on a trip, in my low milage vehicle, and I know that I need never run out of gas for lack of supply at any point along my way. You can buy gas in places that don't even make the map. There are whole towns that exist as nothing but refueling stations for our cars.
Gas prices in 1991? .97 a gallon, gas prices in 2004? 2.04 a gallon. Do the math. 105% increase over 13 years. Actual annual rate of increase? Hmm, 8% (that's not a compounded rate of increase either) What other commodities have had this level of price increase? Housing? Hah! Health care? Hah! Milk? Maybe. Don't forget, a large part of the pump price is taxes/fees. Folks are willing to pay $1.50 a for a 16 oz bottle of water that comes of a a tap somewhere, but not for a product that is as difficult/involved/capital intensive/regulated to produce and deliver as gasoline/fuel oil/natural gas/electricity? $150 Chinese sneakers, $125 sporting event tickets, $75 cable/satelite TV, $85 jeans, $1000 TV sets, $4,000 for "The Fastest Computer Available at This Second", the list of the things Americans throw money away on is very long. At the end of the day, what have any of these things done for us? Not much, just fed our egos. Bigger, faster more powerfull, cooler, more fun, more "Now". Yup we will go into bancrupcy for these things, but not energy.
Damn, what a bunch of crybabies the people of this country have become. If you are so concerned, why not drive a Moped or take mass transit, maybe even, God Forbid, walk the 1/4 mile to the store for the things you need? Oh, that's not convenient! I see!. So you want the convenience of having your own SUV to go where and when you want, but you aren't willing to pay for the fuel? I see!
I think it is wrong that Hawaii is so darned far away. I want it brought closer, and I want the beachfront five star hotels to charge, let's say $20 a night. That's what I'm willing to pay. I want a 3500 sqare foot home, all wood, in a nice neighborhood, w/ a nice view, a pool, AC, 6 car garage and fancy kitchen. I am willing to pay $20,000. Hmm, sounds good to me. I don't care what it costs to produce it. I demand what I want, when I want it, at a price I want to pay. The problems involved in suppling me with this home do not concern me.
Let's boycott the real world. Rum is $9.50 a bottle. Damn, Let's boycott that too.
Amazingly...Citgo provides all the fuel to the Navy Exchange/ commisary where I fill up at.
It is consistently the lowest price gasoline in my town. I buy it happily.

Thought the price of oil is not going up at near as fast a rate as the end product. Thought factors such as the demand on distilleries, regulations, multiple environmental friendly fuels, etc. was the cause of the fuel price increases.
