Cosby, Saying the Darndest Things
Bill Cosby was anything but politically correct in his remarks Monday night at a Constitution Hall bash commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education decision. To astonishment, laughter and applause, Cosby mocked everything from urban fashion to black spending and speaking habits.
Bill Cosby, ready to let off steam. (Lawrence Jackson - AP)
"Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal," he declared. "These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids -- $500 sneakers for what? And won't spend $200 for 'Hooked on Phonics.' . . .
"They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English," he exclaimed. "I can't even talk the way these people talk: 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' . . . And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. . . . Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. . . . You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth!"
The Post's Hamil Harris reports that Cosby also turned his wrath to "the incarcerated," saying: "These are not political criminals. These are people going around stealing Coca-Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake and then we run out and we are outraged, [saying] 'The cops shouldn't have shot him.' What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand?"
When Cosby finally concluded, Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert, NAACP President Kweisi Mfume and NAACP legal defense fund head Theodore Shaw came to the podium looking stone-faced. Shaw told the crowd that most people on welfare are not African American, and many of the problems his organization has addressed in the black community were not self-inflicted.

True, and thank God that some are responding to our moment in history with whatever personal courage they can muster.
Sounds like Cosby has got right to me.Them race baiting bozos aren't going to like him.
It was a pretty good role model for white families too. Who wouldn't want the life of the Cosby's? (I loved that show!)
He's very liberal. But I always thought he was one of those blacks that voted reflexively Demo, because so many of his thoughts are conservative thoughts.
I remember when he talked about how his parents would get paid off, and get picked up in a car to go vote on Election Day for the Democrat. He said everyone would wait for their dollar (they would get a dollar each for voting).
I thought, hmmm, a lot of people probably don't want that voiced.
"Add one more to the Republicans-who-live-in-Hollywood list. (How many is that now? Five?) The ever-shrinking Lara Flynn Boyle tells Us Weekly that Democrat John Kerry ain't her man. "I'm Irish Catholic, so a Democrat by blood," Jack Nicholson's former flame reveals, "but I'm 100 percent for Bush. I want my president to be like my agent: Not afraid of people, but wants my best interest."
Good for Lara! She is one hollywood's so-called "bad girls"..smokes, party's and doesnt care what anybody thinks about it.
That can't be easy to pull off.
His television show was a bit canned and dull, but it was good at heart. My grandmother used to go to tapings. My dad went to school with him at Temple for about a year.
Incorrect. That post was completely true.
Nothing scares a black guy worse than being arrested or confronted by a black policeman. The black police exhibit a certain intollerance of their own's doing's. They tend to go heavy on the club like it's some sort of redeeming therapy settling a score with those who do their race a disservice.
Yup, it aint exactly a real degree. Not Batchelor's, Not Master's and not Doctorate.
Still, an Ed. D. isn't like a law degree, where getting one makes you dumber than when you started.
"He won't come near smoke 'n fire and Jello!"
"You've got to have baby-coach wheels"
"ya' put a bullet in the furnace, it'll explode"
(tink tink tink tink BOOM tink tink "snicker" tink tink)
Thanks for sharing that story. I think we've learned here is "a little bribery goes a long way." LOL.
This I must give Cosby credit for - If he can have an audience in stitches without gross out shock "humor" with frequent use of obscenities, he is far more intelligent than most of the other "comedians" out there.
We have a summer theatre-in-the-round in our town. Cosby appears virtually every summer to sold out crowds. My former neighbor managed this place for many years and got to know the celebrities pretty well. She said that far and away Cosby was the WORST. Rude and very unpleasant. Coming in a very close 2nd...no surprise..Diana(don't dare look at me) Ross.
If he was a common liberal, his show would have had one of his daughters getting an abortion and the son coming out of the closet and bringing his gay lover home to sleep. No liberal could produce a show that had such good family values --- those kids weren't being handed money by their parents or encouraged to seek a life of welfare handouts. It's like deep-down he is a Conservative.
'Not practicing law' is one of the highest callings a person can have.
