SAN FRANCISCO - A bill that would allow same-sex couples to get married in California will die in a legislative committee and then be reintroduced at the end of the year with backing from the Assembly speaker and other prominent Democrats, the measure's author said.
Assemblyman Mark Leno said in an interview Tuesday that he has agreed to keep his "Marriage License Nondiscrimination Act" off the Assembly floor during the current legislative session by not pressing to have it voted on in the Appropriations Committee, where the bill was temporarily shelved last week.
Although the measure passed another Assembly committee last month - which supporters said was the first time any gay marriage bill had cleared a legislative panel in the nation - Leno said he decided it was better to let the measure stay on hold for now rather than subject it to potential defeat down the road.
"We have an ever-growing list of statewide electeds who are now in full support of marriage equality. We have successfully covered an enormous distance in the last few months," said Leno, D-San Francisco. "There is every reason to believe we can get this to the governor's desk one year from now."
Even if the bill had garnered the 41 votes needed to get it out of the Assembly - support it did not appear to have - and subsequently passed the Senate, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger had given no indication he was willing to sign it.

Think John Kerry wanted to have to answer questions about whether he supported this? One guess. In a presidential election year, no use riling up the electorate of a state that could go either way, is there?
Its simply being put in abeyance til after the election. The Democrats ARE committed to pushing gay marriage here, regardless of what Californians have said on the subject.
Exactly. It isn't a winning issue for them, even in California.
Hopefully it's introduced before the election. The majority of Californians think homo marriage is repulsive, and an electorate getting repulsed by liberal shenanigans right before an election can only be a good thing.

Homosexual Agenda Ping - Good News for Now, Even in California!!
Even though so many legislators are wretchedly criminally insane leftists promoting evil, the majority of Californians do NOT want same sex marriage!
(I wrote this to a couple of freepers yesterday who were feeling discouraged by the radical "gay" marriage coup. I am including it here to encourage others!)
(Let me know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist)
I actually feel very hopeful, even in the midst of this incredible onslaught of homosexual radicalism, actually hedonistic-secular humanist-atheist terrorism.
Why? Because it is said, with good reason, that it is darkest before the dawn.
God exists, this is truth. His nature is all-perfect, all-merciful, all-knowing, and all-powerful. Nothing is out of His grasp, nothing is beyond His knowledge or His control. Those who rebel against Him suffer the results, and we can see that not only today is Massachusetts and elsewhere, but even within the confines of our own hearts.
In His perfect wisdom and mercy He gives us free will - because without the choice of rejecting Him, there can be no loving surrender. The more we choose Him, and pray for His mercy in helplessness, the more we will see His hand in our lives daily. The more we will experience His direction, guidance, and presence. One sincere soul praying incessantly - which can be done within, no matter what we are doing - can change the world.
More and more people are waking up, I am convinced. The evil that is being perpetrated in the name of "Gay Rights", "reproductive rights", "right to die", as well as jihadi terrorists, is so terrible, that many people who have up until now remained more or less asleep, can sleep no longer.
I think there is great hope in the midst of these sorrowful and dangerous times. Each one of us has a great opportunity to turn to God and by doing so become secure and happy ourselves, and do great good for others.
With sincere regards,
little jeremiah
