Wasn't it was the church this cardinal belongs to that was, guilty of "moral failure" and deception, until recent events forced them to face the music? Perhaps Cardinal Stafford and his brethren should focus at the problems in their own backyard before they offer their opinions.

One wondere, btw, if the good cardinal has heard of Nick Berg.

I am not Catholic but knowing what I know of the present Pope's background and his present age and health, I suspect that he is no longer in charge of the Vatican or policy.

James Francis Cardinal Stafford also said the abuse of Iraqi prisoners was the work of "barbarians."

LOL I wonder if this idiot was as vehement in attacking his fellow priests and their abuse of children?

It is cover, the Seminaries have been taken over by Queers and they drive out straight men who love God.

Witness England... the gays first want sex in Public Mens Rooms to be legal and as soon as they got it the next thing they wanted was to lower the age of consent to 12.

I am not religious, but tis makes me sick.

Well Cardinal, perhaps you should have the beam in your eye removed before you tell us about the splinter in ours.

I'd get banned if I said what I really feel.

I am in whole hearted agreement with you,
and I am a Roman Catholic.
Pope John Paul II is not in charge.

The men who speak on behalf of the Vatican
are trying to drive away Catholics like me from "their" Church.
They hate America and American Catholics who are not democrats.

Unfortunately, this cardinal isn't the only one
spewing hatred about America and specifically GWB's
prosecution of the WOT.

These cowards will deserve the wrath of Islam.
And it's coming.

JP II is a supporter of America's Iraq policies.
He made sure that the only images of May 18, his 84th birthday, were those of him delighted to receive the president of Poland, who is, besides Blair, the most outspoken supporter of America's administration in Europe.

For a Catholic, this is especially infuriating! It must be some kind of test of faith because I don't have very charitable thoughts after reading about these guys sneering from the Vatican.

There are a bunch of factions vying for power, both inside and outside of Rome.

In the inner circle, you have relatively conservative cardinals like Ratzinger and some other Latin American bishops who are supposed to carry out the Pope's directions.

Plus, you have people like Cardinal Arinze and his African/Asian colleagues, who have been able to capitalize upon the poweer vacuum that exists in an aging, increasingly secularized Europe, to expand their influence over Church doctrine and the promulgation of the Pope's directives.

Well now that we've found some of those wmds (and in the hands of terrorists no less), what does the good cardinal say now? Who here believes that even if we find a whole warehouse full of wmds that moral ciphers like Stafford will apologize for their obtuseness? Good grief! could anyone imagine these types dishing their baloney during WWII?

That's a rather deceptive title. The NYPost must be outsourcing their title writing to Reuters.

Exactly, this Cardinal maybe is learning that he should not come up with absolutes that can turn out to be wrong before your interview is even published.

Cardinal Arinze is the only hope for the Church, IMO.
