Keep your eyes on Atlanta folks as it's shaping up to be a *really* quick night for the Diamondbacks... Johnson did it once in 1990 but he's never done it like this.

I know that there wasn't a baseball credentials check for anyone entering this thread ... but, for CRYING OUT LOUD you have not added one damn thing, sir.
Wow! You have quite a family, while mine merely puts the "fun" back in dysfunctional! :D
Oh, we're that way, too. A vertible carnival. ;D
So you've told me! :D
I agree with you. This does not negate the fact that the idiots who run the Major Leagues have ruined the game. The team concept is dead and baseball died with it. Fan dedication and love of the "team"(read: players that can be followed and loved by the locals) made baseball a passion, not just an exhibition.
For exhibitions, minor league games or college baseball do just fine.
I can't wait to see Randy Johnson in Yankee pinstripes later this summer. ;)
Once again, I stand corrected.
You are right that it is the official scorer of the game, not the umpires. However, I stand by my point that they have become a lot more lenient in calling, for example, a hard hit ball a hit rather than an error.
Add what? Another voice to the Randy Johnson Admiration Society's LoveFest '04?
I've already stated that I think he is a great pitcher and has performed a monumental feat. Not enough? Too bad.
If you care to comment on my opinion as stated in post # 64, fine. Do so. I think it is a valid point. If you think that amounts to 'nothing'...again, too bad.
And if what I stated in #64 amounts to nothing, then what does that make Petronski's ridiculous suggestion in # 67? Get a grip, Gip.
Amen to that. Take that Ted!!!
Last pitch he threw was 98I've saved that photo of the last pitch. Thanks for pointing it out!
Both DC area papers ran the AP story this morning. How pathetic. Boswell had better write about it tommorrow... So, to the web, and the best article I have found so far is from SI:
27 up, 27 downIberian, I enjoyed your post no. 80, too. Total agreement.
Johnson, nicknamed the Big Unit, struck out 13 and plowed through the decimated Braves' lineup in 117 awesomely effective pitches. He threw an astonishing 18 of them at 97 mph or better, including five that clocked 98 mph and one that popped in at 99. He mixed in his deadly trademark slider with the fastball and threw in a handful of split-fingered fastballs just for good measure.
That was rude. He didnt slight Randy Johnson one bit. Just giving an opinion on the word "perfect". Geesh.
You need to look up the term "Perfect Game", then contact the moderator and ask that your post be removed.
What's the difference between a perfect game and throwing a no-hitter?
A perfect game means that no opposition batter ever reaches base (via a walk, error, hit by pitch, etc.). A no-hitter can have opposition men reach base (usually walks or error) as long as no one gets a hit. There have been a couple no-hitters where the opposition has actually scored.
I did see Nolan Ryan in 1979 pitch at Angel Stadium against the Yankees in which his no-hitter was broken up in the 9th inning by Reggie Jackson. The crowd booed Reggie as he stood at first. Reggie turned to the crowd and gave us dualing fingers with both hands. Only Reggie.
make sure to vote for Piazza for the all-star game. Clemens, at this rate, could likely be the starting pitcher. That would be fun to watch.
