It began as a country version of Laugh In and was really looked down upon at the time but it outlasted Laugh In by more than two decades. In many ways watching Laugh In today one would expect it to be very dated while I think Hee Haw is much more timeless. I can't say I was a big fan of the show myself but there is no denying its longevity.

'and was really looked down upon at the time'
I was doing the midday on the air shift for the #1 country music station in Mobile, AL when Hee Haw hit the air. I remember very well how badly it was received by the world of country music. I always enjoyed it from the very first show, but I guess my tastes in country music were just not in time with the times. The late 1960's were a GREAT time for country music! Remember John Wesley Riles and his only hit? Talk about a one-time-wonder!
