Just now, looking for copy...
A couple of weeks ago I read that there are something like 6,000 - 8,000 munitions dumps spread throughout Iraq and that so far we've only destroyed about 1,800 of them. Considering how much work remains to be done, I think David Kaye was way off base saying flat-out that there are no WMD's in Iraq.
Just ahead, though, we'll go live to a police helicopter tracking a man who ran a stop sign and is now trying to elude police in downtown Paducah, Kentucky.
I'm an RN working in an ICU, I know what antidote drugs like Atropine, benzotropine, and Artane(trihexphenydyl) do, and we've had some training on WMD's. As for battlefield training I've read as much info as civilians are allowed to have so if you have any more info why don't share it with the rest of us.
That's what I'd like to know. Here's a quote from Kimmit:
The round was an old `binary-type' shell in which two chemicals held in separate sections are mixed after firing to produce sarin, Kimmitt said. He said he believed that insurgents who rigged the artillery shell as a bomb didn't know it contained the nerve agent, and that the dispersal of the nerve agent from such a rigged device was very limited.

That having been said, what Kimmit said about how the shells are supposed to work was monumentally stupid, IMHO.
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I very well may be), but don't chem-laden shells have a VERY small amount of explosive in the nose? Just enough to 'pop the top' so the chemicals can be released?
It is the actual shock of firing the shell from a gun tube that mixes the chemicals together to create the active agent. With the two reagents unmixed, the shelf live is much longer than 5 years. So this could be a shell from the 80s. It is still a lethal weapon, worthy of the moniker WMD.
BTW, atropine is a lethal poison. Left untreated, atropine poisoning is uniformly fatal. This is a case of the cure being only slightly less dangerous than the disease.
well, you can't overplay it - then you open yourself up to the media saying you've hyped it.
But say SOMETHING - and not just from Kimmitt. An appropriate statement would be:
"today, a nerve gas agent was part of an explosive device used by insurgents to attack US troops. The US military is investigating, and using all efforts to determine the source of this material and the storage location where it came from".
Put the premise on the table that the material was used, and that it must have come from someplace inside the country - where there is one, there are others.
Once the news cycle passes, the media gets to define this story on their terms (pesticide, etc) - and after that, the truth no longer matters.
Bush is running out of time, he can't keep "concealing" and "classifying" and allow the media to define everything as he sinks further in the polls. An October surprise on WMD isn't going to work - its too transparent, it opens up the case that they were hiding information all along. Tell the truth, and tell it now.
Please don't doubt it. Remember 9/11 has been spun and hidden, Nick Berg hidden.
The leftists INTEND to kill us, and when it happens they believe we deserved it.
If I am incorrect...then tell me where my information is wrong and enlighten me.
I work in an ICU and we have to be prepared for mass casualty attacks regarding nerve agents. The antidotes and the antidotes to the antidotes aren't inconsequential. You just don't get one shot of atropine and boom its' like nothing ever happened!
You ever seen atropine psychosis? I have and have given gogentin and artane for it.
They are not too hard to figure out. Just act as if up is down and down is up.
(or as Teddy K would say, sinking is swimming and swimming is sinking...)
gogentin = cogentin...sorry!
I would hate to think of what effect this shell might have had launched from an improvised-artillery-device tube on JFK's inaugural day festivities or maybe over a packed Big House in Ann Arbor... This is vey series no matter what the slimy news agencies spin.
Depends on the dose.
In Vietnam, some grunts used to get high using their atropine injectors.. (not recommended.. highly dangerous)
Ever heard of "Locker Room" ??
It was a deodorant/ room freshener.. contained atropine..
People used it to get high before it was taken off the market.
Remarkably effective in getting rid of tobacco-marijuana smell in the high school bathrooms..
Zyklon-B was a pesticide, too. And that particular pesticide helped murder millions of Jews in the 40s.
This idea the media has that pesticides are somehow different than nerve agents is almost laughable. Nerve agents grew out of pesticide research. They are the same thing.
I think you are correct that the admin needs to promote this a bit, without claiming too much. It is highly unlikely that of the hundreds of thousands of tons of munitions still in Iraq that this one shell is the only chemical weapon in the entire country. The odds are that there are dozens or even hundreds more. Maybe even thousands.
"I don't think any of the alphabet news agencies (Old Media) used the term WMD when describing the thwarted Jordan attack either. "
...does that surprise you?
"71 or 72 chemicals and vials including VX Nerve gas were found, could have killed 80,000 and injured hundreds of thousands and they DIDN'T use the word WMD. Amazing."
You know, sometimes I think they should remind people that the "mass" in WMD does not refer to the number of weapons that exist...
It's not weapons of mass weapons...it's weapons of mass destruction...masses of things, masses of people, masses of people and things...DESTROYED.
They'd lay low for a while if F'em were elected President and deal with the suddenly-alone Israelis first. Still, it's a very scary thought.
"By this crazy logic, when the Terrorists are successful in detonating a WMD HERE in the United States that costs thousand of lives all the TERRORISTS have to claim is, "WE DIDN'T KNOW it was a WMD, we just wanted to KILL only a FEW of YOU!!"........Sorry, only the convoluted mind of a LIBERAL can this be taken seriously."
I'll add one more "crazy logic" for you: "more people INTENDED to vote for Gore than for Bush"...remember that one? "We were 'confused' by the ballot..."
Just damn.
