BROOKLYN CABBIE SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR LYING TO FBI ABOUT POSSIBLE TERROR PLOT
May 27th, 2004
A Brooklyn cab driver who tried to purchase explosives is headed to prison for lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about possible terrorism-related activity.
Sayed Abdul Malike, 43, was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison, after pleading guilty in January to lying to the FBI about trying to buy explosives and get information on bridges and cruise ships.
Malike, a legal United States resident born in Afghanistan, was arrested when a Queens store owner told authorities the taxi driver was trying to obtain information on how to make a bomb.
Federal officials say Malike will be deported back to Afghanistan after his sentence is completed.
