Two faucets located two feet above the ground enable the drivers to conduct ritual cleansing, including washing of the feet, before they pray.

Thank you for the info. I now need a new keyboard. ;-)

Arab Gang May Have Existed On Southwest Side

By YVETTE PRESBERRY

A group that had called themselves the “Arabian Posse” may have been at the height of their powers on the city’s Southwest Side a few years ago, but local officials say that their impact has faded over the years.

The Arabian Posse, also known as “Tap Boys,” was known in the late 1990s as a youth gang known to spend their time near 63rd Street and Spaulding Avenue and 79th Street and Pulaski Road.

Officer Wayne Gajdinski of the Chicago Lawn (8th) District Police Department said that the group was not as big as other gangs that are predominately Hispanic or African-American, but still contributed to criminal acts like drawing grafitti.

Members of the crew were mostly Arabic, wore red and white colors, and used a four-point star to designate their identity through grafitti.

As of late, though, he said the group may have dispersed to the southwest suburbs.

Bridgeview Police Chief Charles Chigas was also familiar with the Arabian Posse’s existence a few years ago, but believed that the group may have dispersed or faded away.

The Arabian Posse is not the first gang to exist on American soil. As investigators had worked to shut down predominately-owned Arab-American companies and groups alleged to support terrorism, other groups used their criminal expertise to create mini-empires.

The Chaldean Crime Syndicate was known to run in Detroit in the mid-1980s. Its leader, Khairi Kalasho, also known as “Harry,” was reportedly running a drug empire that was linked to the infamous Medellin cartel until his death in 1989.

Another Arab gang in Chicago is the Assyrian Eagles, whose members are reportedly from Iraq, Syria and Iran, accordingh to police.

This group was not known to have special gang colors, but did ues the initals “AE” and an Eagle to represent themselves.

The National Gang Crime Research Center reportedly stated that some Arab gangs appeared after the 1991 Gulf War when tensions grew within the U.S.

However, local police say that nothing has been reported of the Arab gangs in the last few years.
