Did you see the FR thread about the lady in the wheelchair that bit the head off a snake?
It was better than the comedy channel..
That map reminds me of the threat BL made to divide the US in three.
I saw it, but never got around to clicking on it...
What in the heck is the loopy thing in PA?
Sounds like their seeds of satanism may be coming home to roost.
BTW, what is it about Bangladesh's values/philosophy/practices which would seed so much evil and troubles for them to harvest from???
_Jim said: Ahhh ... which NY Blackout - there has been, really, only one "NY Blackout" and that was in 1977. (1965 was regional, the NE area and 2003 was an even bigger regional event!).
New York has, however, been 'blacked out' to due to much larger, encompassing blackouts in 1965 and of course in 2003 ...
Last year's (2003 blackout) was primarily of a green regional system coordinator (MISO) coupled with a control room "in the blind" (First Energy) and a short, late season warm spell that stressed the system just enough such that certain lines sagged into trees (some that were on the shortlist with tree-trimming crews in the area to do just that!) ...
As always, cites references if needed but far and away the biggest, most comprehensive resource on last year's blackout (complete with news stories as well as technical papers and analysis) can he found here:

Here is an update of the post concerning the tractor-trailer travelling westbound on U.S. 460 in central Virginia. Turns out it was a false alarm.

Let's hope the rest of the Middle East - and the entire Muslim world - jumps on this bandwagon
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) Saudi state television turned to interviewing everyone from children to intellectuals to try to rally citizens against terrorism as it reported Saturday on the latest outburst of extremist violence in the kingdom.
A recent campaign to denounce terrorism has led to an unprecedented public discussion in Saudi Arabia about whether the austere version of Islam expounded in the
kingdom might contribute to extremist violence.
On Saturday, Saudi television broadcast patriotic anthems and interviewed a number of Saudis and foreigners living here, who all denounced the latest attacks. The citizens called upon the government to deal with the militants firmly, with some calling the perpetrators the deviant bunch, one of the labels Saudi
authorities have used to describe militants. The interviews
appeared with the caption The Street Pulse.
Children were also interviewed, and many described the attacks as terrorism.
On an hour-long talk show aired Saturday, intellectuals called upon the nation to stand up to terrorists.
Hmmmmm. It looks like progress...
