I camped outside Congressman Dana Rohrabacher's house in Huntington Beach the other day to make sure no illegal immigrants showed up to mow the lawn.
It wouldn't have been good timing for the congressman if they did. A vote is due this week in Washington on a bill by Rohrabacher that would require doctors and nurses to report suspected illegals for deportation.
Why should MDs do the dirty work? Seems to me that if Rohrabacher really wants to drive out illegal immigrants, he should have introduced a bill imposing fines on neighbors who hire undocumented gardeners. I saw lots of trimming and leaf-blowing as I approached his house.

Color me confused. Why is this in breaking news?
This is just plain knuckle-headed. Let the government do the damn job we pay them to do. I don't see much evidence that our borders are being defended as required by the constitution.
Maybe because the vote is this week?
"Why should MDs do the dirty work?"
Let the govt do everything - you are not responsible for anything --- Yes, massa ... what ever you want, massa.
with the help of the socialist/communist dnc, democrats, kerry, clinton, kennedy and cabal - we will finallt have a true SLAVE-HOLDERS world.....with US as the slaves.
Sorry folks - my GUN and the Second Amendment of our late Constitution will keep me free.

You have been brainwashed to allow someone else to do what you are responsible for yourself.
"If you love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."

From my campaign's possition paper on illegal immigration:
U.S. Citizenship is the greatest birthright any American has. This is a privillage that should be closely guarded.
When we look the other way at illegal immigration, we set a tone of lawlessness that gives a false impression to illegals when they enter our country.
I will propose legislation that designates a 30 day window for illegals to settle their affairs and leave the State of Pennsylvania. After that, a $100 bounty will be placed on illegal aliens that are turned in to the police by private citizens.
This program will be funded in two ways: Reduced strain on social services by the over-served illegal community and by the State auctioning off all the possessions illegals have when they are deported.
Any locality that refuses to enforce the standing immigration laws, Philadelphia for example, will simply be denied any state funding whatsoever.

Then just let the doctor collect the money for the bill himself instead of expecting the taxpayers pay it up.
Could you be anymore insulting?
I pay more than 40% of my income to the government with the understanding they will use that money to defend the borders of the United States. I am not an agent of the government. It is an agent of mine.
If you can convince the government to dissolve that contract, I'll be happy to start rounding people up for deportation -- doesn't make for an orderly society.
As it is, the states use the excuse that it is "a federal responsibility" and won't deport those who are picked up for other crimes at this point. And I should do more than that while working a full time job?
By Lopez's logic, doctors should not have to report suspected cases of domestic violence or child abuse either.
Can somebody explain to me the purpose of 'blowing leaves' (only to somebody else's yard) ??
What a waste of time, fuel and noise.... Why not to rake them and collect them.
Seriously - this is a mystery to me for many years....
"This is just plain knuckle-headed. Let the government do the damn job we pay them to do."
I quite agree. This is a ridiculous burden to put on a doctor. It will not be beneficial to the general public in any way. Why doesn't he try getting the police departments to identify illegal immigrant criminals, for a start.
Immigration is a big problem, but it isn't doctors' and school teachers' responsibiltiy to be policemen and immigration officers.
With the possible exception of Mexicans (oh, and Candians, hey we may be getting a lot of disgruntled conservatives sneaking in from the North any day, let's hope they're humorous) it should be rather easy to eliminate all illegal immigration.
The stupidity of, "What about his neighbors gardeners?" Obviously the reporter does not want those gardeners caught, if it is true as the reporter has stereotyped them that they are illegal.
What garbage. If there is a story there on illegals doing yard work, the reporter should write about it.
Journalism as slipped so far under.
Bingo!
"Mandatory Reporting" laws have been in existence for many, many years. All health care providers, not just MD's, are required by law to attend periodic training to educate them on what to look for and how to intervene - the training is mandated by the government but must be paid for by the provider's employer. This includes dependent adult abuse reporting as well as cases of suspected child abuse.
So, not only does the government require reporting of suspected abuse, but private institutions are required to foot the bill for the education requirements.
"...doctors should not have to report suspected cases of domestic violence or child abuse either"
That is a completely different situation, apples and oranges. I'm not sure I agree with mandatory reporting, but, in the case of domestic violence the patient is presumbably the victim of a crime that will otherwise go unreported, because the victim/patient won't report it. It seems that this proposed law would force doctors to report their patients as presumed criminals, regardless of their ailments.
A closer comparison would be to a situation where a person comes in with injuries that might have been sustained during the commission of a crime, like a gun shot wound delivered by a shop owner, etc. resisting a burgaler. Are there any mandatory reporting laws for these situations?
But the doctor doesn't mind going to the government to get the taxpayers to pay up for the free services he offered the illegal. Maybe in exchange for taxpayer payment of their bills, the doctor could give the names. Or else just let doctors give free care without having the taxpayers have to pay. Many of these freebie patients are giving birth so they can then collect a welfare check and stay in this country. Unpaid medical bills should prevent legal residency, amnesty, or citizenship.
I blow my leaves into the woods around my lot. It works like mulch.
I pay more than 40% of my income to the government with the understanding they will use that money to defend the borders of the United States. I am not an agent of the government. It is an agent of mine.
Since you apparantly are happy paying this govt 40% of your money - great. Most socialists are happy little worker ants - like the chinese peasants - many little happy workers toiling for their masters. You don't really think the govt is an agent of yours, do you?
I prefer my freedom, I take responsibility for my actions and also will defend myself since the govt won't. If criminals were trapsing across my property, I would first attempt to hold them, if they tried to run ..... I will treat them as they deserve to be treated - as invaders.
...their boots would be pointing away from my house.
Maybe because every citizen has an obligation to report a crime in progress.
Being illegally in the United States is a crime in progress.
I want to see the INS beefed up until they can pick up everyone reported and deport them promptly, not release them on bail to vanish into the population.
