Knowledge of Abuse May Go Higher Yet

Army intelligence officers suspected that a Syrian and admitted Jihadist who was detained at Abu Ghraib prison outside Baghdad knew about the illegal flow of money, arms and foreign fighters into Iraq. But he was smug, the officers said, and refused to talk. So last November, they devised a special plan for his interrogation, going beyond what Army rules normally allowed.

An Army colonel in charge of intelligence-gathering at the prison, spelling out the plan in a classified cable to the top U.S. military officer in Iraq, said interrogators would use a method known as "fear up harsh," which military documents said meant "significantly increasing the fear level in a security detainee." Their aim was to make the 31-year-old Syrian think his only hope in life was to talk, undermining his confidence in what they termed "the Allah factor."

According to the plan, interrogators needed the assistance of military police supervising his detention at the prison, who ordinarily play no role in interrogations under Army regulations. First, the interrogators were to throw chairs and tables in the man's presence at the prison and "invade his personal space."

He gave a good radio positive Iraq message today. The people are tiring of all prison abuse all the time. The negatives haven't really helped Kerry.

Kerry's a real nightmare. That's why I think he isn't gonna be the nominee. This is Hillary's year.

He has the first round votes and unless he drops out..he's it. That's the rule.

Sheesh, Rumsfeld ain't going anywhere. He gave him a big endorsement. JMO, but you are too busy reading every damn liberal article about Bush and then scream he isn't defending himself. Take a break away from liberal papers and other media sources for awhile, they are getting to you, IMO.

What I want — all I want, really — is for Bush to let us in on what we're doing in Iraq insofar as he can without compromising security.

What's going on in Fallujah?

Why did the theatre commandewrs do a lot of big talking about how we were going to kick their ass and then pull back and allow the insurgents there to claim a moral victory?

Was there a purpose in that, or was it a political dicision to minimize casualties at the expense of the war effort?

If the White house is micromanaging the war a la Vietman then we might just as well admit defeat and go home.

There are ominous signs that we're planning to give authority to the UN and then bug out while still footing trhe bill.

What the hell is going on there?

I'm suspicious thet we're being played for suckers and I want some answers.

I could go on at some length but it's late and I'm tired of typing.

Do you think the rank and file are going to feel like dubya sold them out? Or is the feeling gonna be--those idiots at Abu Ghraib had to go down for this??

This campaign has been tough as nails so far. Every time Bush/Cheney mention Kerry's lousy voting record, the media helps Kerry by bringing the debate back to Vietnam. This whole thing has been a darn headache so far.

What could get him out? The polier affair thing fizzled. The story of a bogus purple heart fizzled. Heaven knows the Clintons are looking, I wonder what would force him out.

Hon, you've done your best for the Dems tonight. It's okay to go to bed now.

Either that or you seriously need to consider taking Prozac.

Gore won big in Illinois because the Republican governor was a thieving grifter.

I know people who voted for a Democrat for the first time in their lives so as to vote Ryan out of office.

With an attitude like that you should move to Canada ; ~)

That sounds appropriate.

France and Spain come to mind, as well.

The above is oxymornic, IMO.

Look, I would like to know every minute detail going on in Iraq, but I can't and have to have trust in our current CIC and military leadership to get the job done.

Yes it can get frustrating, but I have to have trust in them. That is why I disregard for the most part media reports intentionally designed to tear away at the trust.

When it comes down to trusting our President or the media, I will trust our President and his team anyday over the media.

The rank and file turned these prison guards in. Besides, there is no doubt the rank and file are tickled pink to have Bush for CIC and would hate having Kerry, who called them ALL war criminals.

So what should Bush do to stop the feeding frenzy? Is there anything he can do besides ride it out?

The military has been on top of this from the get go. As the trials proceed, that will become apparent, IMO.

I don't think there's anything the President can or should do, other than continue wiping out armed opposition and preparing Iraq for self governance.

If we succeed in that, then nothing else will be of any great consequence.

Oh, I know. Dan Rather's bs was phony. All he did was out the pics--which didn't need to be outted. The investigation was already ongoing. Rather's Abu Ghraib bs has been the dirtiest piece of journalism in a long darn time.

Oh, Kerry is total scum. The only reason I asked is because it seems to be a strategy of some of the accused soldiers to go after the President. Those soldiers at that prison are class A low lives.

Don't watch broadcast news. Either that or invest in a huge bottle of Tylenol.

Oh, I can handle. I really don't watch Rather. I only turned him on a bit to see how severe his treason got and I was literally in shock that he gets away with what he gets away with.

Accused prison guards don't have values, and that makes them not like someone with values who want our country to reflect values, i.e. President Bush.

It all fits. A=B=C

Rather is the only major anchor who still has a whiff of loyalty left to the United States of America. But he also is a huge partisan, and hates Republicans.

The only reason that Peter Jennings aired the facts that Bush WASN't awol was that he has it in for Kerry, because he is more of a prima donna Kerry, and was putting Kerry in his place for daring to lie to Peet-tah Jennings, the Canadian.

I'm not about to register at Washington .comPost just to find out how this story ends.

I hate it when they pull this. Force you to excerpt, then they want your e mail, snail mail, ssn, blood type, etc...

One of the few occasions in life where lying is justified.

Thanks for keeping hope alive. I didn't expect to get the reaction the thread recieved. More than a few had me LOL. I believe folks on the right should keep up with house organs like the NY Times and WaPo, just to know what these folks are writing. If you're familiar with my posting of articles, then you should know I post more articles from the "right" side of things.

Having been former enlisted, I don't want to see all punishment born by enlisted troops when officers may be culpable. At the same time I believe captured terrorists have less rights than my dog, if that much.
