My reaction to gay marriage? Well, it's the same as my reaction to abortion. I won't be getting one. Will you?

Kinda like slavery? You won't be getting one so it doesn't matter?

There is a distinct difference between those two issues, at least from the perspective of "those against".

Those who oppose abortion almost universally oppose it because they believe that an unborn fetus is still a human being with human rights, and terminating a pregnancy is thus no different than murdering someone who has been born simply for convenience. As such, they can justifiably claim that they believe that abortion harms an innocent party, and they are merely speaking out for those who cannot speak for themselves.

With same-sex marriage, opponents cannot legitimately claim that there are "innocent victims". Ask who will be directly harmed in the wake of the first same-sex wedding on May 17, and they might sputter and say something about "the children", but press them for an explanation of exactly how the harm occurs and how it is a direct result of the same-sex marriage, and you'll be given a host of empty excuses and no satisfactory answers.

So abortion opponents have a much better justification for trying to prevent others from doing what they themselves abhor.

So what is your reaction to terrorism? Let me guess --- "Who cares? I won't be committing any terrorist acts. And they're never going to target my burg anyway - at least not in my lifetime. So who really cares?"
