One purely speculative theory of mine is this:
Berg was in Iraq with the comm tower non-job for cover-for-action to travel around odd places.

His real mission was to act as a messenger, trying to become a go-between from Int'l A.N.S.W.E.R. to Al Queda. I mean, ANSWER can't exactly just pick up a phone to call Al Queda. To communicate with them, you have to GO to where they ARE, and fish around dropping hints, until you're picked up.

That's when you tell them the glorious news: you have come from a group "allied in the struggle against the Western imperialists" yadda yadda. You have a message, and an offer to coordinate activities, or perhaps hints on how to tweak their operations for the best effect, IOW, what and when to pull an operation which will result in the defeat of George W. Bush in November.

You expect to be treated fairly well, perhaps roughed up like the fake Japanese hostages/peace activists. After all, you can't talk to Al Queda, and just walk away like nothing happened.

But they saw the Jewish name Berg, and the Israeli passport stamp, and that trumped his ANSWER credentials. When the AG Prison scandal hit the papers.... Nick went on to serve a higher Al Queda purpose: human sacrifice on film.

That's why Daddy Berg (Mr. ANSWER) said "They killed their best friend."

The above is pure speculation on my part.

Well, it certainly is an original theory!

Interesting theory...probably the best I've heard.

I'm still shocked by "They killed their best friend." What the #$!**!! These are the same guys who killed 3000 on 9/11 and many more on other occasions. Their best friend?! Good lord.

I remember listening to a report on NPR months and months ago about how difficult it is to get work in Iraq and that American businesses need to get the work orders approved in the US and not in Iraq.

The basic gist of the story, and the stories told by American business owners looking to gain contracts was, going to Iraq to find work is useless. All contracts are handed out in the US.

The idea that one could just hop over to Iraq and land some contract work is no possible.

This seems exceedingly likely.

Observe, however, that there are several theories about the reasons for Berg's arrest in Iraq. It might have been his Israeli stamp in passport, but it might have been his links with 9/11 suspects.

Some of our speculations are collected here; in that thread there are some links back to FR, but also some items that FR did not notice yet (like the Aztlan conspiracy theory).

I'm all over Aztlan!

That's the subject of my next novel, "Domestic Enemies," set in the Southwest around 2014.

The Islamofascists will strap explosives to their own children, then throw a celebration after he blows himself up.

The idea that one could just hop over to Iraq and land some contract work is not possible.

I think Nick Berg subconsciously felt guilty about his father's reprehensible anti-American attitudes, and as a result felt compelled to counter his dad by going to Iraq to try and help.

Nick was obviously naive, as evidenced by his statement (printed in the Philly Daily News) to US officials in which Nick said, "Well, you don't understand them (Iraqi's) like I do."

In the end, Nick's trusting soul and his US passport with a travel stamp from Israel is what got him killed, I believe.

Al'qaeda thinks everyone from Israel is Mossad.

Good luck to you and Phantom Lord. I asked questions in an earlier thread today about what Mr. Berg was doing in Iraq and why he wound up in Mosul when he told his family in email that he was trying to get out of the country via Jordan or Kuwait. I was mildly flamed. I don't think your flaming is going to be mild.

Travis McGee puts forth an interesting theory. However, for two days after viewing the horrific death of Berg, I'm still in a rage. I find it incomprehensible that the 5 islamic swamp pigs are still alive. Regardless of Berg's idiotic decisions to go to the war zone and his refusal to return home, there is no acceptable explanation by anyone for him to die in such a grotesque painfilled way. I personally want to see the shedding of islamic blood by these 5 murdering criminals. Don't want to see them captured or tried or sent to another country. Want to see them die, hopefully in like manner. And if they die being tortured by any means, then I will toast their deaths.

There are too many incredible coincidences stacked up around the life and strange times of Nick Berg to get flamed for noticing them.

Sadly the father will use his agenda to get with the scum that is Moveon.org, ANSWER and others and his son will never est in peace.

Does anyone have links for Michael Berg and his association with Answer or other anti-American groups?

That seems to be what Susan Lindhauer did- trying to arrange some kind of deal on behalf of her handler between the Baathist regime and the Bush admin - only in her case she went to Andy Carr and he reported her instead. I wonder if she has anything to do with ANSWER?

Was there some symbolism in the orange suit?

However, for two days after viewing the horrific death of Berg, I'm still in a rage.

You touch on something here that is troubling to Freepers or anyone else with a brain who has been paying attention to this horrible story as it unfolds. We're enraged, and we're not related to the victim. However, his father is giving press conferences in which he criticizes the president because of the USA PATRIOT Act, while saying that the five cowardly murderers who decapitated his son killed "their best friend." It doesn't add up. Either the father is mentally unbalanced (not as a result of the murder, but just as his "normal" state), or his hatred of Bush trumps his sorrow from his son's murder. Something isn't right here. If that had happened to one of my children I would have to be sedated or restrained.

>>One item missing in all the theories: how did he get the Orange Suit?

Al Qaeda used it due to the recent loss of the U.S. contractor hostage who escaped (don't have his name handy).

It is the source of the conspiracy theories about CIA executing Berg that are currently floating on islamist and liberal sites. Thanks, FreedomPoster.
