"I've stopped reading newspapers," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said today to the troops in Abu Ghraib, Iraq. "You've got to keep your sanity somehow. I'm a survivor."
The wire services did relate that remark. What they didn't admit was the loud cheers rising from the GIs.
Fortunately, we saw (and heard) the footage on Fox News.

Too bad Rummy does not have a GO like George Patton to back him up. I have often been critical of Rummy, but in this war I cannot think of anyone I would rather have as the SecDef.

Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don't interfere as long as the policy you've decided upon is being carried out. Ronald Reagan
Thank you Secretary Rumsfeld.

How do you know they love him? Who told you that? The "media"?

Rummy & Myers are on CSPAN right now where he made that remark. 6:45 pm PST.

There does seem to be a mixed view of Rummy in the military, but on the whole I do think he's got the majority on his side. The slackers and careerists are not fond of him. The patriots are.

Yeah- Boston is real "loserville". Half the modern weapon systems being used in Iraq were designed by the "losers" at dozens of the most prestigios colleges and universities in the world in this state. The "losers" in Massachusetts have higher incomes and more education than nearly the entire nation. The Massachusetts state Democrats in the local state house and state senate are the most conservative in the country and many are pro life Catholics. There hasn't been a Democrat governor in Mass for 16 years. Now if we could shake our disgusting congressman and senators we could lose that dumb "liberal" smear.
Go Sox.

Yeah- Boston is real "loserville". Half the modern weapon systems being used in Iraq were designed by the "losers" at dozens of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the world in this state. Nonsense. The "losers" in Massachusetts have higher incomes and more education than nearly the entire nation. Higher incomes, and higher costs of living. The quality of life isn't higher, and that's all that really matters. More education? How do you figure? The Massachusetts state Democrats in the local state house and state senate are the most conservative in the country and many are pro life Catholics.Absolute nonsense. I mean, absolute and complete bullsh-t. There hasn't been a Democrat governor in Mass for 16 years. LOL. A "Republican" governor of Massachusetts would be run out of most places in the South, unless it was a predominantly black area. Now if we could shake our disgusting congressman and senators we could lose that dumb "liberal" smear. Why don't you check out the results of Presidential votes in Massachusetts? The best part about Massachusetts and the arrogant people (what you posted above is a good example of this) who reside there is that the "center of the world" is becoming more and more irrelevant with every passing day. Thank goodness. Go Sox.

Celtics haven't won any titles since 1986. So, Boston is loserville. :-)

Hate to burst yor bubble- But this City is making a huge comeback. Been here recently? The Dowtown is great. The big dig is nearly complete (I know- it was a federal boondoggle that on principle I was against)- but it looks good! The formally ugly waterfront of Boston is going to look great. Look to Finneran. President of the Senate. A good Irish Catholic who is still officially "pro life" as are most other pols of Irish or Italian extraction. But in reality- I have to agree it matters little and is token only. Up until last year this state still had blue laws- no liquor sales on Sundays (and most towns still maintain them- though not Boston any longer.) Our bars close at 1:30- most close at 1:00. Boston doesn't even have a "Red zone". I think there is one "strip" bar left in Boston and that is not even full nudity. No porn shops.
The poltics of Massachusetts is complicated (Irish - Yankee relations are still a major factor in some ways). Culturally this is a very conservative and some say "prudish" town and state.
Go Sox.

I canceled my subscription to the Boston Globe this morning at 7:01, after more than 20 years. This was the absolute last straw.
And therein lies a major problem
It took you 20 years
If all the conservatives who buy the Wash Post NYT LA times Phila Inquirer etc etc and all the conservatives who still donate to their liberal colleges etc didn't they would be severely impacted and get the message real quick
I cease and desisited back in the late 60s and sent a letter stating such
