"From the minute this story broke, it didn't pass the smell test.
And I have been beat up over my suspicions of Nick Berg...
"
I had a similar feeling. That's why I've stayed off the Berg threads.
This coincidence(?) just seems too much to me. If true, and it surely appears to be at this point, then there is a lot going on here that we just don't know.
I sense a big story coming out of this, and a lot of Freepers ain't gonna like it.
The beheading was still a horrific act...there's no question about it, but...why did it happen? Perhaps we don't know the answer to that question right now.

Why do you think Freepers won't like the big story stemming from this matter?

So what are the implications of this? That he was either a CIA or a terrorist spy?

I sense a big story coming out of this, and a lot of Freepers ain't gonna like it. I had two freepers private email telling me to drop my inquiry...what I might find I wouldn't like. Perhaps...
This thing definitley has the potential to explode one way or the other.

(This is not the "War on Terror", Islam is the common denominator)

Let's see "you can't make this stuff up" "truth is stranger than fiction" and " I thought I had seen/heard everything" come to mind. I probably would have been to chicken to say it but I had strong reservations about why Berg was in Iraq. I will say that I was to busy to post yesterday.

I sense a big story coming out of this, and a lot of Freepers ain't gonna like it. What about the story do you sense Freepers won't like?

If I flamed either one of you over this, you have my apologies.
To me, it was a case of retaliation by terrorists. It just seemed to me that Nick Berg was one of the civilian contractors. I'm interested in the truth, whether it hurts or not. If in fact the CIA was involved, no one will ever know.

I have to agree with those who say the Berg story did not pass the smell test. I don't often jump in on gut feelings, especially when someone has been mutilated in such an awful way.
But the whole family just turned me off by blaming Bush, etc. because he went over voluntarily and refused to come home.
This is going to come out in a whole new direction methinks!

I sense a big story coming out of this, and a lot of Freepers ain't gonna like it.Well, you have had to notice that the Berg story was the anti-venom for the Abu Gharaib story.
What am I saying?!?!?!?

I think his father's comment that what the terrorists who killed him didn't know was that he was their best friend, was very, very odd.

I've been hanging back on this Berg thing, too.
It stunk from the beginning, and the stench is getting worse every day.
Think I'll stay back and watch for a little while....

I sense a big story coming out of this, and a lot of Freepers ain't gonna like it. A big story HAS already come out of this. The guy was beheaded.
Anything else is just sloppy seconds.

Several possibilities:
Berg was an American and was killed in retaliation for Abu Ghraib.
Berg was CIA or Israeli intelligence.
Berg was working with terrorists but somehow betrayed them. They used the situation to further inflame the prisoner abuse story.
Berg was working with terrorists / Saddam supporters and was executed by CIA or some other American group.
Berg was in the black market and crossed the wrong guys.
Berg's father promised his friends that his son would help their cause, but Berg refused.
Somebody else was killed.
