The father's statements indicate that he believed his son was in Iraq acting on behalf of the terrorists; how else could he be called their "friend"? Tinfoil.... OFF
The idealistic Sr. Berg was saying that Nick Berg loved everybody, and was in Iraq to help the people.
I can see a father in mourning saying things that when parsed too closely don't make sense.

It's beginning to seem to me that Berg had a chance encounter with Moussouai a few years ago, eventually wandered into Iraq as an adventurer/businessman, aroused Iraqi suspicions because he's an unusual guy in an unusual place, and was captured and killed because he's an American. Maybe there's no mystery and we're just spinning conspiracy theories.
