I noticed before that that he sat there, somewhat complacent. It seemed strange. It was like he didn't know they were about to execute him. His face didn't show 'knowing fear.'

It seems like a pretty obvious ploy to placate him by concealing their intentions. I don't see how this implies any special relationship with him.

Was apparently an engineering honor student at a top school, Cornell, and drops it to enter Oklahoma University.

I'm in Oklahoma. We do have a good college football team there :) Maybe he's a fan?? :)

# 705 sounds good. Still, there is the possibility that things are the way they appear: a naive American idiot looking for opportunities - and we have plenty of those, and plenty of encouragement in our culture to become one - with some past shallow connections to the Arab world, travels to the war zone seeking, yes, business opportunities and friendships, after all, "people are the same everywhere"!

Not sure if this has been posted again yet so here it is. The thread went crazy while I was trying to find the inital thread it was in...In the meantime, I realized I hadn't found it online before searching news b/c I hadn't used the phrase "their best friend" (thought it had been 'better friend')

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=5139979

"In the interview from outside his home..." "'I am sure that he only saw the good in his captors untilthe last second of his life,' Berg said. 'They did not know what they were doing. They killed their best friend.'"

You mean a naive American idiot with a string of coincidences that transpire in his short life.

Re: Berg was in Oklahoma City at the same time as the 20th 9/11 hijacker Massoui (spelling?).

SO WAS THE REST OF OKLAHOMA CITY

My comment was based on the pic of the body on the bridge. We were wondering why he was filmed wearing the orange jumpsuit, yet the body wore street clothes. The pic wasn't that of Nick Berg. Sorry for the confusion.

'sending his poor son as an envoy to Bin Ladens guys was a neat campaign trick for Kerry'

Even though I can't stand Kerry .. your statement is a stretch. Without any evidence .. I'm afraid I just can't buy it.

Speaking of attire. Our military people could learn a thing or two about who should be wearing the hood when you are trying to humiliate (or torture) someone.

You might want to check the linked article in post 811.
Even if not all true...just deepens the mystery of Nick Berg.

But .. according to everyone who knew Nick .. he was not anti-war at all and totally supported Bush.

Wow, best tinfoil thread since, metalbird, mojo and michael rivero left.

My take, is was just a stupid idealist kid, raised in a family, which taught him if we don't bother them, they won't bother us.

He was apparently well known in his trade and could quickly establish his expertise. He did some work while there and did earn money. He had a dream about building cheap cell towers and getting rich.

Remember he was raised in an leftist idealist enviorment and lacked real world common sense.

HUH? How many people were questioned by the FBI because Massoui had their password/email information?

It's at least suspicious that:

1. The guy who had a coincidental connection to the 20th 9/11 hijacker died at the hands of the same group.

2. The guy who was butchered to death has his father say "you murdered your best friend".

3. The guy had no license to do what he was in Iraq to presumably do. He never graduated college and got a license.

4. The guy had no telecommunications equipment although he was there to rebuild telecommunications centers.

5. He came and went from Iraq twice, although he had no job and no money.

6. He was offered free passage home but didn't go because he was afraid of the trip to the airport but not afraid of traveling to Kuwait, which is where he was headed.

7. Other little things that don't add up but I'm tired and don't remember.

Doesn't mean anything, maybe. Might mean a lot maybe. We're just speculating. Regardless, he didn't deserve to die that way and the jihadists have ticked off everyone I've talked to more than they've been ticked since 9/11 and the anthrax scares.

I'm afraid I started this stuff. I was going by an image collage posted yesterday that led me to believe the bridge photo was actually Nick Berg.

Just another inconsistency in the fathers behavior, although I don't profess to understand the Left. And grief is a powerful influence on the mind.

I find the father's behavior to be disrespectful of his son, if in fact his son believed in the liberation of Iraq. If Nick was a best friend, it would have been to the coalition and/or those Iraqis rejecting terrorism and the insurgency.

I will say this about those on the left I know, nothing happens based on ones own free will if there is a corporation, a Republican, or US government to blame. Still, I can't square this with the father saying Nick was a friend to terrorists.
