I know what I saw. I don't care what Nick Berg has done or was doing in Iraq (unless he was working for the enemy). He didn't deserve to die the way he did.

If anyone wants some perspective on this issue I suggest they watch they video if they haven't seen it yet.

I'm with redrock, it's the muslims turn to decide their fate.

Skywalk, he need not have made a Johhny Taliban Walker conversion. Given his pop's anti-war A.N.S.W.E.R. politics, he may have been one of those "human shield" types that instantly adopts anyone who opposes the U.S. and wants to prove that he doesn't hate Muslims, thinking it will lead to some form of world peace.

That would fit a lot of the comments we've heard about this guy, that he's idealistic and a doer, without him necessarily denouncing his Judaism or adopting Islam.

If he had an Iraqi family member, he may have mistakenly believed that he "understood" these types and felt no danger.

There are some things about this story and his father's comments that do seem to stretch credibility beyond the breaking point. The only problem is in figuring out what's true and what's not - who's lying and who's not.

I don't think that is necessarily an attempt to besmirch this man or minimize his horrible death. I just want to know what the truth is here.

"If he was referring to Iraqis as those to whom he would have been a best friend."

I didn't hear Berg Sr.'s rant and do not care to. I understand he blamed Bush and Rumsfield. To those of you who heard his rant, is it possible he meant Bush and Rummy killed their best friend?

He could have been kind of a naive and adventuresome type being used by Al Queda. I'm sure in college a lot of us talked with foreigners --- found them interesting --- some of our "friends" might have been involved in serious politics back home. He's working in communications which could make him quite useful --- and he could be used by his friends who never really trust him one way or the other. The FBI questions him now and then --- he's not committing treason or doing anything wrong but they're watching him because of those friendships, maybe work relationships he had created. He could himself have been pretty a-political but getting used --- especially for technical expertise.

My theory is that Muslims will not contradict each other in public but that the average Muslim would be appalled at what these guys were doing. Political correctness could be a sword and shield for them. They also had a flight school and a poorly-protected federal building. It could have been any of a number of places, but OK seemed to have all of them.

Since he was detained by both the FBI and Iraqui police, there must be a paper trail...

"The above is pure speculation on my part."

Agatha Christie ain't got nothin' on you bro!

Very plausible de-construction.

"I am sure that he only saw the good in his captors until the last second of his life," Berg said. "They did not know what they were doing. They killed their best friend."

Interesting...

That "no job" thing struck me right off the bat as well, but one pushes aside that nagging feeling in light of what happened to that poor guy.

Anyhow, stupid adrenaline junkie or terrorist sympathizer, he died a horrible death and I pray for the eternal rest of his soul.

Certain other aspects of the various news reports strike me as well:

"I'm currently trying to pick things up with the business and the local contacts, all of whom think I'm the biggest flake in the world now, as well as plan my return trip, which has been complicated by...military closures."

Why would his return trip be complicated by military closures if our own government allegedly offered him safe passage out of there?

you can't really tell there is an occupation."

"Occupation?" Leftist buzzword if I ever heard one!!!

Some other friend said something like "he was going to do his duty" .

Perhaps he thought it was his duty to assist our country in the rebuilding, or he could have had a more nefarious duty!

One thing he was not, and that is CIA. If the info. regarding the Israeli passport stamp was true, there is no way he was CIA!!!

This story will get more and more interesting, I am sure!

They don't know what they have done, he was a friend (to) or (of) the Al Queda.". I might have thought I heard him wrong except for the fact the News anchor, Rick, then came on and said; "He meant to say a friend of the Iraqi's."

Truly bizarre how this guy can speak so dispassionately about the animals that butchered his son, yet spews his venom at President Bush and Rummy. SOMETHING is wrong with this picture.

If nothing else, his prior "association" with Moussaoui was certainly the reason the FBI became involved after his arrest in Mosul. As someone else noted on this thread, his second trip to Iraq in 4 months was a red flag.

Isn't it just a little odd that if Nicholas was truly a Bush supporter and believed in why we are in Iraq, that the father would have come out so strongly against Bush?

Even though the father clearly comes from the other side, doesn't it strike you as being a bit demeaning to his son's own opinions, to what was supposedly important to the son?

After all, if Bush hadn't liberated Iraq there would have been no reason for the altruistic Nick to visit Iraq and help the people there. Helping the Iraqi's would never even be a consideration to anybody.

Just another inconsistency in the fathers behavior, although I don't profess to understand the Left. And grief is a powerful influence on the mind.

I just sent you a freepmail.

You can tell you have freepmail (mail that no one else can read) when "My Mail" on the main news page is highlighted/bold.

Mail that others can read is found under "My Comments" and is highlighted/bold.

that "saw only good in his captors until the last second of his life". read that back to yourself a few times - could it also not read "he was one of them, and at the last moment they double crossed him".

I hate to speculate about stuff like this, given that he died in this way and this all may be just coincidence and conjecture, but something is so strange here.

I guess with the password and Moussaoui, the Iraqi uncle, the odd jobs in Iraqi communications, his possible employers and acquaintances, his father's association with ANSWER, and the frequent trips, it would be more a surprise if the FBI wasn't keeping tabs on him.

If Berg Sr gloms onto Kerry, and later Berg Jr is seen to have been on an ANSWER-Al Queda liason mission gone wrong...it's all over for Kerry.

FNC just reported that David Berg (?) has a different account of how Berg came in contact with Maossoui.

The FBI reports Berg's password/e-mail came into Maossoui's hands.

David Berg says that Nick Berg and Massoui shared a bus ride.
