If I am to be brutally honest with myself, if not anyone else, I have to say that daddy Berg's haste to politicize his son's death has made me much less sympathetic about what happened. Daddy Berg is scum, in my opinion.

"I'm more disgusted by my own countrymen than the terrorists."
I feel like we're moving through an inevitable prelude to total war, a fatal period when half the population clings dangerously to denial until severe lessons are learned. And yet, disturbingly, 911 was apparently not that day. Will it take something unspeakably worse? Sounds gloomy, but who would have believed years ago the moral fog that appears to exist today even though thousands were slaughtered right here at home?

Aye. It's almost
almost as if there are hoofprints on this story...
hmmm... what's hillary! had to say lately?

I think Mr. Berg may have befriended the wrong people, and was tricked by them, and found himself face to face with some very evil people. Most likely scenario I've heard/read.

I'm a little rusty on my past history. Does anyone have a FReepers link or perspective on exactly what happened at the Wellstone memorial? I heard that Billary was involved, so it could not have been good. The memorial service for Wellstone was turned into a full-blown political rally by the Democrats. They even had Wellstone's son up at the podium, chanting "We Will Win! We Will Win!" - thoroughly disgusting.
The crowd also made some Republican senators - who had come out of respect for their colleague - feel most unwelcome. It was quite a sorry spectacle, and I can only hope that they do something else that foolish.

Kerry didn't want to ANSWER Jill Zuckman's inquiry, eh?

Kerry is no better than the Palestinian Ghouls bartering body parts to Israeli families.

Was he supposed to make an anti-American statement and instead his 'friends' killed him?Quite possibly, and they would have killed him anyway. If that was the case, he died a brave American hero. He seemed quite brave in any case. I didn't watch entire video. But as the "statement" was being read, all I noticed is what appeared to be a shudder or two.

...Nick being Al-qaeda's best friend...I think the father meant that his son, like Dad, had an understanding of Al Queada's "just grievances" against the west and America in particular, and therefore could have established a rapport with them. All he would have needed to say is "How, me friend."

I mean...I was there...and I sure don't remember seeing him.I was there too and also did not see him but that just proves that he was there and expertly camouflaged. On the other hand, maybe he voted for sending himself to Vietnam before he voted against going there or before he voted to go home in four months. It's all very confusing.*
A four month tour is something most of us could only dream about.

Surely you were referring exclusively to the senior Berg.If it turns out that Nick Berg, like the Japanese Leftists a few weeks ago, was over there offering to be a pretend hostage, that would lessen my sympathy for him. As for the father, his near instantaneous politicizing of his son's hideous death is despicable, in my opinion.

Having recently arrived to FR, you are suspect. The President didn't solicit this young lady, nor would he have known she would be in the audience.
You aren't a Freeper, you are a poser. And now you are exposed for the Leftist you are.

If it turns out that Nick Berg, like the Japanese Leftists a few weeks ago, was over there offering to be a pretend hostage, that would lessen my sympathy for him. Absolutely no evidence of that yet and I don't think there will be. I still would have sympathy for him even if there were, given that he was given a death that only an arch criminal would deserve and that no civilized society would impose. But that's me.
I think Berg the younger was a naive adventurer, perhaps "liberal," we don't know, but likely with the notion that he was capable of face-to-face diplomacy with any hostiles he might encounter. And, as pointed out earlier, he may have been led to his death by perfidious "friends," ala Danny Pearl

I believe you may be right in your assessment of the son. However, it is the father's despicable behavior which has put the son's motives in question. You are absolutely right, though, in indicating that the manner of his death was barbaric in the extreme. The point that daddy Berg and his ilk simply refuse to get is that the nature of our enemy is such that extreme barbarism is a norm for them. If we go down the path they want, someday other people's children will be slaughtered in our own streets instead of in some dusty backwater half a world away.
