Wish I were the one going to see the Pope.

And how many divisions does the Vatican have? How many has the Roman Church committed to the war on terror?
When I see some armored companies of the Knights Templar or Hospitalers or the Teutonic Knights in the field with our troops, I will give a flying flip what the Pope has to say about the war.

Did President Bush warn the Pope that his priests buggering of Altar Boys was wrong? Does Bush tell the Pope how to run his church? What cheek, er, nerve!

I am glad I am Baptist and do not have to listen to what the pope thinks for his OPINION on life!
He does not have a problem with those molestors who used and abused 1000's of boys.
I give up on our world!!! It is making me too nutty!

Aside from exploiting carmelite nuns to clean the diapers of Vatican officials and to be raped in muslim and other thug lands, what has the pope and the Vatican done to clean the mess in Iraq?
Enough said.

The Pope is a senile old man who is probably not even really running the Catholic Church anymore. I suspect that the Cardinals are pulling most of the strings. And there is a ton of corruption in the Vatican amongst the Cardinals. The Church has more cleanup to do than just the priest's scandal. As an outsider, I agree.

I sort of got that idea when the Pope essentially voted for "The Passion of the Christ," before he voted against it.

If everyone listened to the Pope, I'd be writing this in German. And kissing a koran

I am sorry, but I don't believe that the Pope is capable of such political thought or expression and I don't believe that the media would be touting the Pope's statements if they weren't reflective of the leftist bias of the Pope's handlers. The left believes in the total separation of church and state, remember? So, why is the left suddenly so concerned with the politics of the Catholic church?

The Pope should be aware that bringing Religions together is impossible and totally undesirable. Islam is a sham religion ruled from the beginning by militant terrorists, whose greatest desire was/is to bring every other religion into obedience to it's own insane dogma, by whatever violence it takes, including the murder of everyone who refuses to cowtow.
If and when the religions of the world are united, the Anti-Christ will be the head of that coming hellish entity.
We as Christians do not look upon this as a Holey war (Jihad) but few are the Muslims who do not see it as such. The silence of the opposition is deafening.

I have a poor opinion of Pio Laghi. During his years as Vatican legate to the U.S., a lot of bad bishops were appointed. He doesn't bear all of the blame, but he clearly did a lousy job.
We know that there are useful idiots in the Vatican. Whether the Pope will speak out in these terms is another question. The Vatican has spent years fighting with the UN over such issues as abortion and family planning, so it's amazing that they would think the UN has any competence or moral credibility.
Maybe Bush will tell the Vatican a few things in return, in his invariably polite way.

Oh boy. I'm Catholic, and this is embarassing the heck out of me. When will they make a statement on the torture and murder of Nick Berg? I guess nekkid twister with a bunch of terrorist thugs is more repellant to the Vatican, than the beheading of a civilian?

I don't think the Pope has a clue about how bad things are with the child molestation scandal. The last couple of years have been marked with serious health issues. I believe his Holiness has the "mushroom syndrome"....everyone keeps him in the dark, and feeds him bs. Blame the cardinals and the bishops for doing the pedophile shuffle, not the Pope.
Having said that, if you have seen the Pope lately, or the last 10 years for that matter, he is merely a figurehead who is being used. His health started declining right after the attempt to assassinate him...by a Muslim terrorist.
I'm concerned by the statements coming from the Vatican, and what they mean to us.

The Pope is dead wrong about this, and the cause is ideology. The war is either accomplishing good, or is doing evil. It is either a just war or it is not. The fact that the forces involved are primarily from the U.S., and are under U.S. command rather than U.N. command, is morally irrelevant. There is no rational basis, and no basis in the teaching of the Catholic Church, for the belief that war should be waged only by multinational forces or by the U.N.
When clerics make pronouncements about matters on which they CAN be wrong, they abuse the authority God has given them for the purpose of teaching those things about which they CANNOT be wrong.

The Pope is a man. He does not speak for God. He may speak for the Catholic Church but not the for the Body of Christ. There is only one head of the Church and his name is Jesus Christ. The Pope is a figure head for a religious organisation who barely follows the words of Jesus.

This pope apparently doesn't comprehend or otherwise embrace "Just War" theory?
