WASHINGTON -- The scenes seemed eerily familiar. In 1971, shocking testimony about US wartime atrocities was delivered in a Senate hearing room by a young US Navy lieutenant, John F. Kerry. On Friday, almost exactly 33 years later, shocking testimony about US wartime abuses was once again laid out in a Senate hearing room, in this case about US treatment of Iraqi prisoners.
Even as President Bush apologized for the abuses by the military under his command, questions have resurfaced about allegations that Kerry, his Democratic challenger for the presidency, made about the behavior of US troops in Vietnam three decades ago........

Wasn't it reported a few days ago, when Rumsfield was to testify, that Kerry asked the Dems not to "inflame" the situation because it would lead back to his Vietnam allegations???

"On the April 18 Meet the Press, Tim Russert played a clip from Kerrys April 18, 1971 appearance on the show. Kerry had asserted: - There are all kinds of atrocities and I would have to say that, yes, yes, I committed the same kind of atrocities as thousands of other soldiers have committed in that I took part in shootings in free-fire zones."
- "I conducted harassment and interdiction fire."
- "I used 50-caliber machine guns which we were granted and ordered to use, which were our only weapon against people."
- "I took part in search-and-destroy missions, in the burning of villages."
- "All of this is contrary to the laws of warfare."
- "All of this is contrary to the Geneva Conventions and all of this ordered as a matter of written established policy by the government of the United States from the top down."
- "And I believe that the men who designed these, the men who designed the free-fire zone, the men who ordered us, the men who signed off the air raid strike areas, I think these men, by the letter of the law, the same letter of the law that tried Lieutenant Calley, are war criminals.

This is a sanitized, minimizing account of Kerry's misdeeds, lies, and slander in-and-following his duty in Vietnam. Not surprisingly, there is going to be an effort by Kerry and his ilk to tie Kerry's lies and slander about his fellow soldiers and, indeed, about this nation, to the current mis-deeds at the prison in Iraq. Yes, he and his sycophants will say, that's exactly the thing Kerry was talking about and trying to stop. He CAN'T be allowed to get away with this - to perpetuate his WinterSoldier lies and slander about ALL Vietnam veterans. Note that this article says that "several" of those in his (Swift Boat) unit have come out against him. "Several" like hell - hundreds in that unit have signed the Swift Boat veterans letter (stating that Kerry is not fit to be commander in chief) including all those in the chain of command still living and all those in the unit who co-served alongside Kerry on other boats.

Stanley Karnow, author of ''Vietnam: A History," said there is no question that atrocities occurred on both sides in the Vietnam War. Indeed, Karnow said Kerry made a mistake on ''Meet The Press" last month when he backed off some of his allegations about atrocities and war crimes. This gem cropped up in the link. Kerry even flip-flopped on his own claim of atrocities in Vietnam.

Stanley Karnow, author of ''Vietnam: A History," said there is no question that atrocities occurred on both sides in the Vietnam War. Were there widespread atrocities occurring continually?
Were they committed with the full knowledge of the entire chain of command?
To me, those were the two most damning aspects of J F'n kerry's allegations.
