You're right. He has about as much use for his base as his base has for the truth.

Look for him to pick.....Jean Shaheen(sp). She has good tv presence. I don't know why I think he will choose her ....call it a hunch.

John Edwards might be a good choice if Kerry decides to compete in the South. There are rumors and theories that he might just write off the whole region (except maybe Florida). If so, then Edwards would do no good. Gephart seems to be the best choice. Hillary would overshadow him, Richardson and Rendell may not be liberal enough and McCain sits in the other team's dugout. Gephart is well known, supported the Iraq war resolution, comes from a competetive area, and has strong tie to the traditional democratic base.

I think Kerry/Shaheen would be a dream ticket -- for us. Two New England liberals on the same ticket? Be still, my beating heart ....

"One person should be happy: Sen. Hillary Clinton, who insisted again yesterday that she's ruled out the No. 2 spot. But the 2004 vice presidential prospects are also 2008 presidential wannabes. So far, her field of potential future rivals doesn't look too tough."
She ruled out the number 2 spot. Keep that in mind. She has gone against everything she has said since 2000. She will be on the ticket.
Based on the analysis given, it is the only choice for getting around a VP candidate with no military experience.
Daschle might be an option. Gives a midwest presence to the ticket that might be palatable. This might sound a bit nuts, but he can also tap Nader. This would bring that 5% back to the crats which might be enough given a tough race.
My bet is still Hillary in exchange for Clinton's book coming out later in the year.

....don't think so....Clinton basically threatened Kerry that he would come out with his book (which he already has) if Kerry didn't consider Hillary....Hillary is too shrill and too much of a power freak for Kerry....Kerry would fade into the background and it would be 24/7 Hillary.

I agree with your most of your assessment on why Kerry will pick Gephardt: he doesn't outshine Kerry, Missouri is a battleground state, Gephardt helps Kerry with the unions.
Choosing Gephardt is problematic for Kerry, given Gephardt's past ties to White Citizen Council groups.

Not a question of Kerry being stupid or suicidal. Question I pose to all is will Kerry even get to November?
I just cannot see it. Too many things out there that lead me to believe that Kerry is playing party shill.
He gave it a shot and got no traction. The nation knows him for what he is. Even the Rats at the DNC know this. The medical records have not been released.
Something isn't right.

Well she is a woman from a nominal battleground state, so I can definitely see him leaning that way.
Any New Hampshire FReepers here who can give us the skoop on her? Far left winger? Anti-war nutcase? etc?

Close, but no Lewinsky....errr ahhhh...I mean Cigar.... Jane Harman, House Intel Ranking member.

My favorites
Barbara Mikulski or Robert Reich
They both would make Kerry stand tall
