May 12, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - A young American contractor in Iraq was mercilessly beheaded by Islamic terrorists on a horrifying videotape released yesterday as so-called revenge for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners. The sickening video, posted on an al Qaeda-linked Web site, shows a killer identified as terror boss Abu Musab Zarqawi sawing off the head of a screaming Nick Berg.

It is time for us to change our approach to these barbarians.

I had written on another thread (several now, actually) in response to AuntB's post of: "It's time to cut to the chase here and fight this thing like a war. It's time for a Harry Truman moment. Screw the attorneys, politicians, peacenicks, Geneva Convention and the rest. Give the collateral damage 24 hours notice to enter camps. Then go in to the cities, bomb, shoot, run over any thing else that moves. Then give them their God forsaken piece of sand back and LEAVE."

I was totally with her, up until she said we should then leave. The following is an option we must now consider:

If we are going to do it this way, we ought to make the determination to make this a COLONY of the US. If we are going to do this, we ought to plant one of the MOST FORMIDIBLE MILITARY BASEs there that has ever been constructed in history, replete with all the most advanced weaponry. We take advantage of all that sand and virtually uninhabitable terrain to conduct very visible weapons testing. We use this as a base of operations to conduct all our future purgings of Islamofacist behavior. If we need more room, we take that, too. Any Islamic country who objects, we take them and their resources, too - we'll need them. If we are going to do this, we MAKE it FOR THE OIL and other resources, and take full advantage of that oil - every last drop of it. God knows we are more adept at utilizing the resources of this planet in a more productive manner than anyone else is - especially the Islamofacists - so we would be honoring the planet by doing so. Those in countries we occupy will get rich, too. There are a whole slew of African and Pacific rim countries that are crying for development of resources.

They say we are an "Imperial Power" ... let's make it so.

It is also time to do as stboz says: "Folks, it's time to start showing up outside mosques in this country. No violence....but, put them on the spot. Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists." "Moderate Islam" better show up and learn to get with us - for real - and pronto.

It is time to start letting the world know there are other methods of utilizing massive force than the way the US has been inclined to over the past century.

CUT AND RUN IS NOT THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS.

Perhaps it is time to consider that the Romans knew best the way to pacify a world...

My reaction might not be so strong if there were any organized Muslim opposition to their behavior. Those who disagree with it are being too quiet.

There are some, who have the NERVE, right now, on the D.U. website (democratic underground) to actually assert that the hooded al Qaeda beheaders were probably actually "American military personnel". Sick.

Bolstering Bush's position in Iraq and to take focus away from the abuse photos. Lame asses, all of them.

I agree with you, but I don't think it is time to take the approach of getting out. It may be high time to consider turning these areas into colonies, though... see my post#200.

I think it is getting near time to really begin the Empire of the United States.

I can't believe I've never read or seen "The Menacing Nature of Islam" before now.

All I can say is, "Wow."

The blood 'starts' with the genuises who misbehaved and memorialized that misbehavior with many many photographs.

If they didn't do that, there would be no scandal.

Be careful how far back you trace the 'blood,' pal.

Oh, good FReepin' grief!! Is there any ridiculous conspiracy they won't fall for?? The compassionate side of me wants to be embarrassed for them. The practical side says "nah." I'm so conflicted here. ;)

In 5 years, we're going to look back with bemusement at our squeamishness.

Think of the five sadistic killers of Nick Berg. If we snagged one of them, and he knew where the other hostages were hidden, would it be out of the question to use a female GI to humiliate him into a confession? Not even if it would save the hostages from having their heads chopped off next week?

Better more dead hostages, than humiliated terrorists?

"Why could'nt we hit or seize these targets ?"

Take for instance Syria. The US isn't going to strike at any camps in Syria. It is too much of a political hot-potato and set back for years US/Arab world relations. That sort of thing is left to the likes of Israel who bombed a training camp in Syria (Oct 5 2003). The US currently has overflight rights for U-2s of Syria for operation Olive Harvest. A UN peacekeeping operation that goes back to 1974 to monitor the borders between Syria and Israel. Again, they are not going to jeapordize those overflight rights.

The same with Iran. Striking a target in Iran would set back relations in the region just when the Iranians are being put under international pressure for their nuclear power plants and allowing inspections.

The effort is tracking down exactly who did this murder, not just a knee-jerk military reaction. In my opinion the bounty of those murders heads should be tripled. It appears that these are outsiders in Iraq and a very substantial increase in the bounty maybe just too tempting for Iraqi's who have knowledge of these foreigners in their district.

Listened to Rush as he gave a description of what he felt when he viewed the video.

I sat there and cried.

I cannot believe that there are actually humans that could do such a thing. These people are truly the children of Satan.

Thanks, but let me add something. I don't like the ratios that are being experienced. For example 4 Marines killed vs. 40 or 50 or 60 or even 100 insurgents. In all seriousness, if they want a war of attrition, bring it on. But the ratios have to be grossly in our favor. Like tens of thousands to one. I am not being bloodthirsty. This is a war, whether we like it or not. Defeat is not an option and the sooner victory comes, the better. No one ever won a war dying for their country. Make the other guy die for his. (Patton)
