The background for WMD status at this time was: Saddam was desperately working, pleading with other countries to support him in having the UN restraints lifted and for the UN to get out of Iraq. This was in the two year period BEFORE our resolution. Kofi had approached Saddam and said he wouldn't agree to give us any info on anything concerning weapons, i.e., he wouldn't cooperate in any way. I remember Kofi's face when he said this....kinda like....gee, I am so disappointed with Saddam. However, if we weren't on the Security Council, I believe the UN would have left Iraq AT THAT TIME with no further investigation.

I hope Saddam had no stockpiles of weapons. There's no doubt he had the intent and the capability. If he had no stockpiles, and that's a huge if, it means we went in at the right time. If he had stockpiles, we went in too late, because God knows where they are now and I shudder to think who may have access to them.
