Unhatched chicken eggs ("baloot") are a delicacy in the Phillipines, from what I recall.

Interesting article. I buy kosher vitamins because they sound cleaner, and also kosher hotdogs, which actually are much tastier than Hormel's.

He went to a meat market in Borough Park, Brooklyn, and found the perfect goat. But when Kirschenbaum picked it out, it was given to a non-Jew and slaughtered before Kirschenbaum-and the ritual slaughterer he had brought with him-could intervene. "They killed my goat!" he said. "I'm like, 'What are you doing, man? You killed my goat!' "
An alternative goat was selected and slaughtered, along with two sheep, one of which Kirschenbaum described as "drop-dead gorgeous."

There was an old man of Khartoum
Who kept a tame sheep in his room,
To remind me, he said,
Of someone whos dead,
But I never can recollect whom.-- W.R. Inge.

Sorry. The OU allows red meat and cheese made with animal rennet.
Not kosher to me.

Owl,
You may find some culinary ideas for your next soiree on this thread. I didn't see any cicada recipes, but there are some other delicacies mentioned that may peek your interest. Dig in and enjoy...

The problem is there's no human STRONG enough to perform a kasher slaughtering on it -- the neck is too tough and too thick. That is very interesting! I hadn't heard that one. Well, those lucky giraffes. I almost saw a whole line of giraffe patterned plates and huge neck steaks in the freezer. (Do we even eat "neck?")

Many wild animals suffer from punctures on their lungs, as a result of eating thorns or other sharp objects that damage their lungs. Btw, looks like I was wrong about this being a problem with turkeys-- apparently the laws regarding lung punctures don't apply to fowl. Anyway, here's an article describing the issue

yes, we eat neck, and lungs. Pretty much any part of a kosher animal except the blood, certain prohibitted fats, and the sciatic nerve.

Calves foot jelly! Now there's a kosher "delicacy" I could live without. You don't like Jell-O?

Thanks for the link. It was quite informative. My friend sat here and told me that he used to raise turkeys. He did the same thing to butcher them. Cut their throats, hung them up, when the bird is done bleeding, carefully cut around the anus to keep the intestines from rupturing, then scoop it all out at once. I think I'll stick to the supermarket. Btw...my friend is (reform) Jewish. He also was quite interested in the article.
