DUBAI, May 11 (Reuters) - An Islamist Web site said Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, an ally of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, was the man who cut off the head of an American in Iraq in a video tape shown on the site on Tuesday.

A masked man had read out a statement before the killing which was signed off with the name of Zarqawi and dated May 11.

One can only hope there is one Iraqi Muslim out there with the balls to turn Zarqawi in, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

Berg's "executioner" did NOT use an ax. He used a very large knife to slowly slice off his head. Berg's screams continue for over a minute while the Cultists chant to Satan's greatness.

If what we're hearing about the voice recording is correct, then it would seem that Zarqawi is still in Iraq somewhere. He's ellusive, but maybe we'll get a break somewhere along the way.

In terms of the propaganda side of the war I do think that this time he may have miscalculated. Zarqawi and his people have been brutally murdering people all along. That's why he is wanted man #3 or so. The Abu Ghraib matter really has nothing to do with his brutality and I think most people will not say, "Oh no, now we've made him really mad." I think most Americans will see it for what it is - a horribly graphic reminder of what we've been up against. If anything, this is likely to help put Abu Ghraib behind us, except for the clean up. We are not the soft Spanish middle who can be so easily manipulated.

You have to wonder.

On the other hand, I have a feeling that this is a defining moment (actually, in a war like this there will be many such moments) and many people, at least in America, will stiffen in their resolve. I could easily be wrong here because my view of American opinion comes only through the filter of FR. I watch no U.S. television news whatsoever, and have no real conversations with any other Americans. Nevertheless, I sense that the outrage that really matters is that which is percolating through American society at this very moment.

Many of us have been appalled and outraged over the immoral and wicked acts and antics of the Abu Ghraib rabble, but that will get rectified through the courts-martial that follow. The eye now turns back to the foe on the field.
