DENVER (AP) - Six cadets have resigned from the Air Force Academy during an investigation in which 70 freshmen cadets are accused of cheating on a 25-question online test.

Fourteen of the other 64 being investigated have admitted cheating, academy spokesman Johnny Whitaker said Saturday. There are about 1,150 freshmen at the academy.

Here we go again...

Here we go again what? That, "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't trying," should be the motto for the service academies? Is this the model we should subscribe to?

...70 freshmen cadets are accused of cheating on a 25-question online test.

Not surprising when you look at polls of teenage attitudes towards cheating. I'm sure that if civilian universities actually cared you'd have a higher number of students expelled for cheating from those institutions.

Absolutely not!

I'm tired of those coming to the Air Force Academy and participating in events that do nothing but belittle the name of all those who have graduated, those whom are proud to be there now and those yet to enter.

If someone doesn't want to attend because they can't live by the rules of the Honor Code they shouldn't apply. More importantly, if someone can't live by those decent rules of society PRIOR to attending the Air Force Academy or any other Service Academy (or any University for that matter)they definitely should NOT apply.

I congratulate the majority of the Cadet Wing for the hard work, sweat and tears they endure. Pass or fail, they do it on their own and can take pride for the effort it takes to meet the challenge at hand. They sure don't get the positive press coverage. Instead they have to stand by as the good name of the Air Force Academy continues to be sullied by a few. Shameful.

Congratulations Class of 2004!!!

I remember when West Point went through the same scandal. As I recall the liberals (all of them anti military of course) were cackling about the academy getting a new mascot.....a CHEETAH!

Look, I teach high school and technology being what it is, with cell phone cameras being able to scan answers into a hard drive then play them back onscreen...and instant messages able to be sent silently across the room...and then there is the sheer pressure to succeed in an ever competitive world, this is inevitable. Then look at the examples WE provide them: ENRON, and the whole Clinton Presidency, and well..you know. I grew so discouraged this year at the problem that I seriously considered giving up my profession. But the kids gave me the proper feedback that I needed. They need me to give them the perspective of my view of the world to balance that which they have been manipulated by for all these years! I feel like I did a good job this year. Thank God, it's almost over. Only 22 more school days left.

Good.
It's honorable to quit when you have done wrong and not have a temper tantrum and demand others launch costly investigations to catch you, all the while dragging the institution through the mud.

And kids absolutely MUST have cell phones, especially during exams, because.....

I don't think so!!!

You don't understand. First of all our administration specifically allows them to have cell phones. Second in a huge classroom with over FIFTY kids, it is nearly impossible to detect the cell use.

These darned things keep popping up every couple of years.

For about as long as I can remember.

Well, you are right regarding technology and all the things kids can do to get answers from others. It's lousey though. Am glad you are doing a great job and pressing on. We have to have hope always so it's good to concentrate on the ones in school who actually care about making something of their lives. The others? Well, they won't get what they want out of life and so later on they'll whine like babies and blame it all on someone else. Typical behavior.

As for the libs saying the mascot of West Point should be the Cheetah...well, they should talk. They lie like they are working towards the biggest award of the century...Liars award. They don't matter anyway.

Hard work and honor DOES pay off and those with that work ethic will be rewarded. Losers will always be losers I guess so no sense worrying about them. We should always look to the achievers as the real promise and hope for the future. They are there. We just hear about the losers.

Glad your school year is almost over. Thank God for professional educators like yourself. By the way DON'T critique my grammar and english in this email, OK? Ha,ha.
Have a great summer!!!
