"Conveniently left out of this article is the fact that Nelson is another Muslim convert."

While it may mean nothing, what got me was the articles straining to make
Mayfield's wife "Mother of The Century".

I especially wondered why this was even needed for the article:
"Mona, who works as her husband's paralegal, is a highly intelligent woman and
"strong mother" who speaks many languages. Before meeting Brandon, Mona lived in
Paris and London and traveled with her father, who was a college professor,
AvNell Mayfield said."

My guess is that this is the sort of glowing endorsement that would go over well
with the liberal coffee-house crowd in Portland... but for fly-over country conservatives
the first question is "what mosques did she attend in London and Paris...
what sort of political ties did her father and family have in Egypt?
Did they do a victory dance when Sadat was assassinated?"

FYI.

Also, when $inator Hildebea$t mentioned the Islamo Chaplin, YEE, it was not by accident.

I'm sure that if this POS had said that he was going to become an active Christian, his family would have disowned him. Probably the only thing worse would become a Conservative Republican.

Nelson's car apparently has license plate frames stating, "Free Palestine!"

There is a lot more in this relationship that we have read or been told.

Perhaps 'Miss Mona' is our terrorist mole? I wonder why they wound up in Washington state and not in Kansas? Maybe Brandon is a dupe, huh? ("Honey, do you know what happened to that brown plastic bag of mine?")

You posted, "Dave ~ it can't be a mere coincidence that so many terrorist types are in Portland ~ root 'em out and Hang 'em High!"

Blackie, when we first found out about the Portland area being a safe haven for Islamofascists, a conservative doctor friend had a great analogy.

He said "Due to Political Correctness, we will have Pus pockets of Islamofascist/kazis in liberal areas like San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and other liberal cities. Eventually we will have to lance these Pus Pockets drain them of their poison and dose those areas with antibiotics! If we don't we will lose the war against terrorism.!"

With what has happened here and on the floor of the Senate last week re the so called prisoner's abuse, I'm afraid that he is correct in his medical diagnosis.

I doubt if she is an expert in demolitions.

However, many of us were labeling both them as new Rosenbergs in the first thread when we found out about her.

He met her while on duty at Ft Lewis, Washington.

She is not the Mother Teresa the media is trying to make her appear to be.

So "Spanish authorities" tried to drop Mayfield the hint to disappear, but he din't do it quickly enough.

Now wait a minute and think about this.  The Spanish law enforcement folks didn't change overnight when the president was re-elected.  These are most likely the same people that initiated the investigation.  They wanted Mayfield from the start and told the FBI as much.  They probably understand something about American legal procedure, and feared this guy would disappear while the FBI took the time to build a case.  They also knew, that if the investigation went public, Mayfield would clearly be a flight risk and therefore the FBI would be justified in detaining him as a material witness.  So they  leak to the press, and bingo, their suspect is behind bars - how convenient!  Note that he was "detained" Thursday and the story broke AFTWERWARDS on Friday.  He was already under constant surveillance - he had no opportunity to escape in response to the leak.  I wouldn't be surprised if the FBI got a phone call from their Spanish friends giving them a heads-up about the coming "leak."

I hope that you are right. The Spanish cops and investigators are the same. However their leadership is not. We have the opposite when the Clintoon left and GW took over.

However, when I read that NewsWeak and even the La Slimes apparently had a heads up on this, I have to think left wing leakage.

However, "Detaining Him" as a material witness for a Federal Grand Jury can take him out of circulation for a long time.

I'm sure the ground pounding cops and Spanish Intel people are good people working hard to find out who killed their fellow countrymen.

However, the current leader might not be the current leader if that train hadn't blown up.

Occam's Razor my friend. If I'm not mistaken, the leak occurred AFTER he was detained, thus giving him no warning if that was the intent. It does, however, provide ample reason for the FBI to keep him in custody.

It will be interesting to see the time lines on the leaks and his detainment time.

Yeah I caught this a little bit ago too and it raised my antennae. A bit too long at the local watering hole and a band banquet kept me preoccupied.

If I recall NBC had a friend of Brandon on the morning shoe...maybe it was his attorney. They also played a segment with his wife - all wrapped up like a good little Stepford Muslim wife.

Maybe it was the "body language" but they all looked shakey to me.

Kinda like when someone goes postal and all the neighbors check in on film at 11 saying what a nice, quiet, pillar of the community the - obviously guilty - perp was.

Definitely.

BTW, with regard to the "leak," one of the problems is that there is somebody in Spanish intelligence who is leaking stuff to the press. During the Madrid bombing aftermath, the press had been informed of things before Aznar himself knew about them.

The Spanish intelligence service was highly politicized under the prior Socialist government. Aznar restructured it, but kept many of the old Socialist loyalists (sort of like Bush w. Tenet et al.)

This data was apparently leaked 3 weeks ago by a leading Spanish investigator to the LA Slimes:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1131292/posts?page=205#205

...A senior Spanish investigator told the Los Angeles Times three weeks ago that a fingerprint found in the investigation of the train bombings resembled the fingerprint of a man described as a "U.S. military veteran" wanted by U.S. agents in connection with Islamic terrorism.

In subsequent days, two high-ranking Spanish police officials and a U.S. law enforcement official confirmed to The Times that the lead, involving a U.S. veteran connected to Al Qaeda, was being pursued. The veteran was someone who had been under investigation by U.S. agents for some time, the investigators said.

The lead intrigued Spanish investigators because they thought an operative with knowledge of explosives or military expertise helped the team of mostly Moroccan suspects build the remote-control bombs that were used in the March 11 attacks, which killed 191 people aboard four commuter trains and helped bring down the ruling party in national elections three days later.

But as recently as Monday, two Spanish police officials said the lead remained inconclusive. "The American has the profile of an expert who could have supervised the bomb-making," a high-ranking Spanish police official said. "And obviously he's someone the Americans are very concerned about because of his background. But we are told the fingerprint match is not conclusive. We can't say right now that it is the same person."

Who leaked this story to NewsWeak and when?

Are NewsWeak and the LA Slimes conservative or liberal publications?

It is like they have a scene and script to play when one of their Islamos gets exposed.

They trot the family and friends to say what a great guy he was. He wouldn't even kill a grasshopper.

Then they close with shot against GW, Ashcroft and the Homeland Security Act and some racism comments.

Did you kinda want to throw up or take a shower after watching this charade on tv?

That's interesting. The earliest mention of it in the press that I could find was this week, after Mayfield was detained. If so, I wonder why the LA Times sat on the story for over two weeks???

What's also interesting is that Mayfield was apparently of interest not only because of the fingerprint and his military background, but because he was already "under investigation by U.S. agents for some time." I wonder what for?

Oh. I thought they had arrested the guy. He is simply detained.

They have his fingerprint and they are just 'detaining' him? Behind crossbars, I hope.

Officials told The Oregonian that the U.S. investigation of Mayfield started within two weeks of the Madrid attacks and that Mayfield was put under physical and electronic surveillance. Spanish authorities also had pressed their American counterparts to pick up Mayfield for reasons the officials won't explain.

< snip >

Mayfield was detained Thursday at his West Slope law office by federal agents and is being held as a material witness under a long-standing federal statute designed to keep secret the identity of grand jury witnesses.

He isn't likely to be taken before a federal grand jury soon because investigators anticipate he would not talk voluntarily, and he won't be given immunity to talk, officials said. Instead, the arrest gives the FBI time to finish their ongoing investigation.
