I'm not sure. Heleft the Marines as a Cpl., but I haven't heard if he had rank over these people.

Yes. Apparently his girlfriend, Lynndie England, who had a paper-pushing job, would visit them at night. I guess that accounts for how she got in all the pictures, as well as getting knocked-up.
