All right.
That does it.
I am going to say it.
EVERYONE who ever went to boot camp was humiliated more than these people were in Baghdad.
And I mean EVERYONE!

No offence, Marine, but in high school we once took some kid that was asleep and posed him for homo-type pictures, just like they did to the Iraqis.
We took pictures of him with his hand in a trashcan filled with water, too
wrote all over him with crayons and whatever
Nowadays this gets you courtmartialed????
Slapped and made to dig ditches, YES, but sent to jail?

Just out of curiousity, did the DIs ever sodomize recruits with chemlights and broomsticks? Psychological abuse can be as traumatizing and debilitating, if not more so, than physical abuse.

I know, it was an awful thing that happened, but this is way overblown, most of us in the Marine Corps saw just as bad stuff in boot camp as these prisoners had happen to them, and no one made us wear masks, we had to see each other right up front when it happened.
And I would bet Rangers or Airborne saw it all, too.

Drudge is claiming he has pics of an Iraqi female prisoner being raped by our MPs.
I didn't sweat the humiliation crap for these savages but raping their womenfolk...even if terrs...is gonna be a tuff one to rationalize.

I think it was the Iraqis doing the raping, not us.
I was sent an E-mail last year of that supposed gang rape by Americans, real XXX stuff, totally posed

Pray tell, why? The generals who allowed this conduct under thier command should not be allowed to retain their rank. Captain ranks below field officer.

And I would bet Rangers or Airborne saw it all, too. No. I've never been sodomized, nor participated in buggery. Even in all the goofiness, by willy stayed in my drawers and so did everybody elses.
Yeah, pushups and some shoving, cold water hoses and crawling around making funny noises, drinking weird things out of a combat boot...--all in good fun. No buggery...
It's voluntary and a tradition. Had it crossed the line I would have walked 'cuz I'm an American fighting man, not some wierd third-worlder.

OK, I gotta go to bed--I've got National Guard duty tomorrow, and I can assure you there will be no S/M or buggery.
To: chookter
No. I've never been sodomized, nor participated in buggery. Even in all the goofiness, by willy stayed in my drawers and so did everybody elses. Not all of us exposed our willies like that, but remember, I am speaking of Boot Camp, not service, like your Guard time, none of us did that after we got out...even in the Philippenes.

In 1977, because of the abuse scandal that Toby Moffet jumped into after the 1975 death in 3rd battalion, I went through a reduce stress platoon, I only know of one guy who was hit in the stomach.
One DI from a sister platoon in the series was relieved for putting a recruits hand in the washing machine at the rifle range when it was filled with hot water
Another was relieved when he slapped a recruit across the face, that platoon lost a Senior and a junior DI

And I dont hear the Arab or Muslim world apologizing to us for these acts, either, I hear them rejoicing over it!

Members of these elite units -- and the Marines as a whole is an elite unit -- are far less likely to disgrace themselves than second-echelon prison guard troops, precisely because they got this harsh training. The "bad stuff in boot camp" has the moral purpose of developing unit cohesion, etc. Making S&M pics of enemy prisoners while on duty does not.
Overblown, yes. Dead wrong and a legitimate reason for Iraqis to want us out, also yes.
To: RaceBannon
Definitely. At Ft Leonard Wood, if our steel pots were not on correctly, we had to march around the whole day with our fingers on the bridge of our nose. And lets not even talk about the "double sand bag mule kick", or getting tear gassed at bivoac.
These people having PMS over this are babies.
