From the Bellingham Herald, Sept. 23, 2001

Soon after the blasts destroyed the World Trade Center towers, 17-year-old Eliza Gauger of Bellingham sat down in front of her computer and, sobbing, drew "Mommie Liberty," a political cartoon depicting a young, maternal Statue of Liberty, cradling a baby wrapped in the American flag with one hand and holding a revolver in the other.
"Mommie Liberty" is glaring.
"The most dangerous place in the world is between a mother and her children," reads the caption.
Gauger, raised on her parents' belief that the Vietnam War was "the stupidest thing that has ever happened to America," said the United States should find out who killed more than 5,000 people last week and "make sure they never do this again."
"That's not to say (we should) bomb the country to a parking lot," she added.
Gauger's cartoon was published in The Bellingham Herald as well as several other newspapers around the country, and she's printing it on T-shirts for sale to benefit the American Red Cross.
Raised by Vietnam-era parents deeply skeptical of their government, and watching conspiracy-driven TV shows like "The X-Files," Gauger said she "kind of grew up accepting the government was going to hide some stuff from us."
But President Bush has an opportunity now, she said.
"If the people in power are doing a good job, if they can restore faith in America and our political system by being worthy of our trust again, more power to them," she said.
This cartoon says it ALL.

Pardon me if this has been posted before, but it is the first time that I have seen it, and it is so inspiring that it wouldn't hurt anyone to see it here again.
It is beautiful and deserves a place along side Uncle Sam as one of America's symbolic cartoon icons.

Thank you for this post. I've never seen this before. It speaks volumes. It is also the truest statement I have heard.

Can't see it too often. It's one of my all time favorites.

Beautiful picture .....really poignant.
Also, it seems to me that nations have the tendency to push the US too far! Which is amazing since doing so always seems to lead to them getting routed in a particularly effective manner. Honestly it would be better for such nations to leave their malevolent intents to US Democrats ....much safer and more effective.
Anyways, thanks for posting the picture. As said, beautiful.

I loved Mommy Liberty when she first came out.
Then the Liberals got hold of it, and Photo-shopped the revolver off; said it was insensitive.
Thanks, Atos, for putting this front and center once again.

I have a good mind to P-shop in a CAR-15. But, I will respect the artist's intent and the perfection of her effort in every respect. The image is classic, profound, gorgeous and timeless.

Cute but far from true.
Would you mind letting Planned Parenthood and those who willingly had abortions know about this?

Better yet - send it to Andrea Yates and the other "mother" that recently murdered her children. In fact, just gloss through the paper and see other mothers that need to know about this.
The truth is wild animals care for their young better than most human mothers.

Just as Pat Tillman personifies the American
Man... ... Gauger's character of Mommie Liberty personifies the American
Woman (and potential mother).
The rest of the human detritus, simply doesn't matter. We honor and emulate the ideal here.

I have a printout of Mother Liberty hanging on my cube wall. It's been there since found the pic which was shortly after the 9/11/01 attacks.
Not sure of Eliza Gauger's politics, but she did draw a powerful picture and it will remain on my cube wall for a long time to come. Right beside it is a picture of the WTCs with the head of a Bald Eagle superimposed in front of it. At the base of the WTCs is the Statue of Liberty. Another powerful image that I found on FR.
Both images serve to remind me of the evil that was unleashed on us all that horrible day.
Never Forget. Never Forgive. Never Surrender.

"Lionesses whose young have been eaten by a strange lion will come into heat and mate with him."
HUH! That sounds like the behaviour of some human females today. But certainly not MOST!
Remember, it takes far longer to raise a human baby than other animal babies.

You: Most? Sure you don't want to dial that down a tad?
Me: No. MOST don't care enough to stay home with them and raise them. The almighty dollar is MORE important since most prefer to live beyond their means at the expense of their kids.
