Didn't you have to get printed for that other job?

I was certain that it was a mandatory requirement if you were a Tail-Gunner on a Budweiser Truck.

I'll take being monitored by, and having to get to know, my neighbors, over having the Feddle Gummint try to protect me, *any day of the week*. I'd rather have to depend entirely on myself than to have to sign up with the Gummint like some sort of cow with a tag on my ear, if that's really the alternative.

Your point is well taken, though - this is to some extent another example of how the depersonalization of society has led to people relying on the Gummint to take care of them, where previously they could rely on their friends, family, and neighbors.

You've reminded me of something else, too... Massoud Ayoob made the interesting observation that in the event of a war or other catastrophe causing breakdown of the social order, those most likely to survive will be people who have previously formed "bonded groups" (his term) with their neighbors, for collective defense and survival.

I don't have a problem with local law enforcement stopping and talking to me, either. That's what the John Birch Society meant with their slogan, "Support Your LOCAL Police". The alternative - as you point out - is registering everyone like cattle and leaving their (wholly imaginary) "security" to Uncle Bug-Breath...

As you know the primary role of the fedgov is to protect the Union not the individuals within it so much that was always primarily the duty of the states and local governments as part of federalism. That still remains true burt we are not in 18th century Virginia anymore.

Now we are at the point of an international Islamic terrorism war and this transforms many of the traditional relations we have been used to. A new and unprecedentedly dangerous enemy has arisen and is on the attack.

In earlier times there was almost no attention paid to foreigners who came and went at will and often were illegally in this nation. Not only did few care about the illegals but certain cities actually created non-cooperation policies whereby their officials would not work with federal immigration authorities and churches aided and abetted the violators of fed law. Business and citizens looked the other way happy to pay less for their labor than necessary with citizens.

This now must change because now there are infiltrators within the social body working to destroy it. That was never conceivable in the times of our forefathers. In order to combat it information will have to be gathered and analyzed some from innocent unrelated people. But this will be kept at a minimum and does not worry me.

When the cogs of society are as finely tuned as a Swiss watch or German engine it does not take much to disrupt or destroy them. Thus, greater care must be taken to prevent that than we are used to or than we might like. But I see no alternative than death.

But we can't use profiling, for that would be discriminatory and stereotypical, and might actually lower the poor mohammedans' self-esteem!/sarcasm off

I believe everyone should be fingerprinted, what's the worry if you have nothing to hide?

If there is a wave of serious terror attacks in the US I predict a massive internment and deportation of people who practice this "peaceful" religion.

Yeah "next time"... riiiight. Wishful thinking. Our government won't do jack and you and I and everybody else knows it.

Not only does teh military take prints, they also take DNA. I remember when they took all of us in and make us put little blood samples into two circles on a cardboard thing.
