Iraq is about Sex

This war is also about sex Charles Krauthammer (archive) May 7, 2004 | Print | Send WASHINGTON -- On Sept. 11, America awoke to the great jihad, wondering: What is this about? We have come to agree on the obvious answers: religion, ideology, political power and territory. But there is one fundamental issue at stake that dares not speak its name. This war is also about -- deeply about -- sex.

For the jihadists, at stake in the war against the infidels is the control of women. Western freedom means the end of women's mastery by men, and the end of dictatorial clerical control over all aspects of sexuality -- in dress, behavior, education, the arts. Taliban rule in Afghanistan was the model of what the jihadists want to impose upon the world. The case the jihadists make against freedom is that wherever it goes, especially America and Europe, it brings sexual license and corruption, decadence and depravity. The appeal of this fear can be seen in the Arab world's closest encounter with modernity: Israel. Israeli women are by far the most liberated of any in that part of the world. For decades, the Arab press has responded with lurid stories of Israeli sexual corruption. The most famous example occurred in the late 1990s when Egyptian newspapers claimed that chewing gum Israel was selling in Egypt was laced with sexual hormones that aroused insatiable lust in young Arab women. Palestinian officials later followed with charges that Israeli chewing gum was a Zionist plot for turning Palestinian women into prostitutes, and ``completely destroying the genetic system of young boys'' to boot.

This is absolutely and 100% correct, though I would say that this war is about the subjugation of women.

I would want people who have fantasies about putting collars on other people's necks, out of the military. This is not simply juvenile, it is sick and indicates a warped personality. I certianly do not want such a person carrying weapons in the name of my country.

I am afraid that the idea of getting corrections officers into the military police is not such a great idea. There were obviously a number of sick puppies there. I am not sure that these jailers should be linked with the soldiers who had more common military missions and what they were subjected to. I would assume that the jailers are a different class all together. I mean where they came from in terms of US occupational background and the nature of their military experience in Iraq.

I am sorry to have to point this out, but corrections people have a very difficult job, but it is also a kind of work that attracts distinct types of personalities. There are all kinds of "professional" controls in US correctional facilities. These controls apparently are lacking in the military. Greater scrutiny has to be used on enlistment and the need for people should not outstrip the scrutiny. PS: Finally, I want the story to come out of who decided to take pictures and for what reasons and how those pictures made their way to CBS & Seymour Hersch. Were these photos leaked by some turd in the Pentagon reviewing the case, or was it one of the perpetrators themselves. In any case, the investigation of this needs intense work. To harm the security interest of my country is treason and no blather about the 1st Amendment can change that. It is more important than the investigation into how the Democratic Judiciary Senators had their memos leaked.

"Israeli chewing gum was a Zionist plot for turning Palestinian women into prostitutes, and ``completely destroying the genetic system of young boys'' to boot."

Considering the state of delusion these people dwell within, this whole incident is irrelevant.

..............completely destroying the genetic system of young boys'' to boot

Oops, I thought they were referring to a belt bomb. Now that can really destroy genetic systems.

I read this too. It is so true. The media has made a major issue out of prisoner humiliation, yet ignore the enslavement and torturous treatment of women. Evil is well entrenched in the media, but as with all liberal/fascist/commie/evil Dums, they have a philosophy that "thosepeople" deserve their fate. Kerry's remark about how the VN people just wanted to work in their rice paddies (aren't intellectually sophistocated enough for democracy) and we were the criminals for bothering them, points out the Evil Dum mindset.

Excellent insight by a trained psychiatrist. Most of the media have ignored the sexual connotion to this so-called torture. For the most part, Islamic societies are sexually repressed. Countries such as Saudi Arabia practice sexual apartheid. They also censure pictures of women in newspapers, magazines, etc.

The way that this "collar and leash" subculture in our society is not itself curbed from entering important arenas of our national life is a big mistake. Our cost for this in this scandal readily apparent.

The kind of tolerance we have in this society is indeed strange. We need to resuurect a way to let people alone, but still ostracize certain types of behavior traits as too risky for inclusion in sensitive positions in our national life.

What I really mean is that we need to keep those who are sexual perverts out of teaching and, indeed, military service, for starters. The "dont ask dont tell policy" is dangerous because of the homosexual element that is thereby permitted in the military. The ungoverened license of homosexual and heterosexual behavior can only lead to a failure of discipline and good order. This is what happened here.

If htis was a CIA or other intelligence operation, the permitting of the allowance of photographing of the activities is itself one of the greatest indictments of the "intelligence community" in our country.

Bottom line: What's needed is: 1. Reorganization of military and intelligence to segregate female and males; and the denial of service to homosexuals and those with questionable sexual psychological profiles. 2. Regimentaion of security within military and intelligence circlesw so that "leaks" are dealt with severely, in order to end them.

I think I anticipated this. Here's a brief exchange from a short novel I wrote about ten years ago:

Mr. Hawkenspitt: Dr. Smellie, these entire proceedings are out of order. Give them pleasure, sir? What business have women with pleasure? Pleasure is a man's province, sir, and it is men who must pursue it. The pleasure of a woman is to attend to the needs of a man: to warm his bed, to comfort his person, to keep his home, and to bear his children. Let them but once indulge in those pleasures which are a man's peculiar rights, and there's no telling to what extremities they might incline. The downfall of Society would most certainly ensue! (Emphatic cries of affirmation.)

Mr. DeWitt: Yes, there's no telling what they might want.

Mr. Hawkenspitt: Surely, they should want our prerogatives as men. Our money and our property. Our universities and our clubs. Our cigars, gentlemen! Our cigars and our port! Soon they should want our penises as well! (Loud shouts of approbation. More cries of "Hear, hear!")

Precisely because of it's homo-erotic content.

They wouldn't want to put "don't ask, don't tell" in a bad light.

I thin people are seriously making a mistake if they think the prison guards did this to get themselves off sexually; it was to bully, humiliate, and laugh at the prisoners.

Fraternities, and high school and college sports teams, do a lot of the same "sexual" hazing stuff (and there have been some fairly high profile cases where this has been exposed recently) and they're not doing it because their into S&M or anything; they do it because they're a**holes.

I respectfully suggest that there is not so much a difference in the two explanations which you offer as competitors. The leash and collar routine was done in order to impose on these men's minds that they were in the position of being absolutely controlled by females. That this was done as a way of playing with their heads, does not mean it loses its psycho-sexual aspect for the "dominators". You posit that this is only a means chosen to accomplish a goal. Sorry, these means are chosen for a reason which identifies the psychosexual nature of the "actors."

I believe you are deluding yourself if you refuse to recognize that these actors are psychosexually damaged people who should not be in the positions of control which they occupied.

LOL Exactly. Maybe we need more "don't ask, don't tell" types at the Iraqi prisons. Having lived in Saudi Arabia, it is interesting to see how men interact with one another, e..g, holding hands walking down the street dressed in their thobes is commonplace.

Why is the camel called the ship of the desert? Because it is filled with Arab semen.
