Which brings me to a Question.
What law firms are these complaintants using? Oftentimes, GOP has their law firms, and the dems have theirs.

I suggest that posters take the time to write a synopsis of the the articles along with a link, that way the other posters can decide if they want to bother reading the whole article.
The Bellingham Herald, my local paper, is on the list, but I don't think that I have ever posted an article from it (well, maybe once). I don't even get the paper any more. My husband cancelled it over two years ago because he was disgusted with the liberal bias. All we get now is the WSJ.

Dan...I can only guess at this point. We have enough researchers on FR to find out I'm sure.
ALL: Just a little FYI:
They have over 600 attorneys
(http://www.debevoise.com/lawyers/lawyers.asp)
Google: Clinton, Debevoise & Plimpton
http://www.senate.gov/~schumer/SchumerWebsite/pressroom/press_releases/PR00183.html
PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES LAURA TAYLOR SWAIN TO FEDERAL DISTRICT JUDGESHIP
Judge Swain has served as a United States Bankruptcy Judge since November 1, 1996. From 1983 to 1996, she was an attorney with the New York law firm of
Debevoise & Plimpton
http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m1571/41_14/55710667/p1/article.jhtml
Swamped in stories of improper fund-raising practices, the DNC hired the firm of
Debevoise & Plimpton to conduct a review of its contributions during the 1996 election cycle -- and subsequently returned nearly $3.2 million in illegal campaign funds, of which $1,298,800 was raised by Huang.

Arms Control and the U.S. Russian Relationship Members of the Task Force
STANLEY R. RESOR: Mr. Resor is a retired partner of Debevoise & Plimpton and Chairman of the Arms Control Association. He served as Secretary of the Army and Ambassador to Mutual Balance Force Reduction negotiations.
Just keep googling to find um...MORE. At least they can't tell us not to link to them.

Gosh, is this "
the firm", or is it "
Devil's Advocate".
Google CACHE is awesome too.
http://www.wchstv.com/abc/gma/antoniomora.shtml
A native of Havana, Cuba, Mora began his career as a corporate lawyer for Debevoise & Plimpton in New York, in August 1981, specializing in international transactions and unsecured and secured private placements of debt.

I am sure there are enough lawyers on FR that we could all take a tiny portion of any suit against these newspaper providers pro bono and forum shop for a jurisdiction that would be most advantageous to FR. We probably even have a bunch of IP lawyers who could lend a hand.
It could almost like a virtual law office attacking this abridgement of freedom of speech and abuse of the copyright laws.
Gannett's move might give us an advantage to commence suit in virtually any state in the Union depending what the corporate structure their individual papers are. I'd say we should cherry pick a jurisdiction where we think we would get a sympathetic judiciary and go from there.

Google even found this
http://www.alamo-girl.com/02720.htm
4/5/98 Washington Weekly concerning FreeRepublic Jim Robinson ". But Caroline Little's (Washington Post General Counsel) cease-and-desist letter has not been an isolated event. Over the past several months, Robinson has received similar letters, almost identical in fact, from news organizations Times Mirror, Dow Jones, and Reuters..Orchestrating these attacks is the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton. The name of Debevoise & Plimpton popped up recently during the Filegate deposition of Clinton private eye Terry Lenzner. Lenzner revealed under oath that he had been retained by Debevoise & Plimpton to perform investigations of a political nature. Lenzner has admitted that he performs research on White House critics. Debevoise & Plimton is the law firm of the Democratic National Committee, and has conducted most of the investigation of illegal foreign contributions received by the DNC. For this work, the DNC owes Debevoise & Plimton $6 million..Jim Robinson is no less combative in the face of attempts to threaten and intimidate him. As a modern-day Patrick Henry, he defiantly declares from his wheelchair: "They'll have to pry my keyboard from my cold dead fingers."
