Boortz: Why President Bush Should Apologize

A lot of people are wondering why we should apologize for what happend to those Iraqi prisoners while the Arab world doesn't apologize for what happend on 9/11. Listen today ... I'll tell you.
OK .. NOW I'LL ANSWER THAT QUESTION
So, why should we apologize for the actions of our troops in Iraq in light of the fact that we still haven't heard any apologies from the Arab world for the events of 9/11, or for the treatment of those four civilian contractors murdered and desecrated in Fallujah? That's easy. We're not them. We hold the moral high ground here. If we accept our ownership of the moral high ground, we must accept the standard of conduct that comes with it, including apologizing for our actions when such an apology is appropriate.
We are trying to convince the Iraqi people that America has something more to offer them than did Saddam Hussein. Yes, Saddam really did torture his people. It wasn't just humiliating pictures, it was actual rape rooms, electric shock devices, mass murders and other brutalities. Iraqis got no apologies from Saddam. Now is the time to show them that our way is better. When you see that your people have done something wrong you punish them, and you apologize to their victims. How can this message not resonate with a people who have been brutalized, without apology, for so many decades.
As for that prison? Make a big show of leveling it. Destroy it. Replace it with a memorial to those who were abused and murdered by Saddam Hussein on that site.

I am still in shock that President Bush is getting flack from Rush Limbaugh about apologizing. I saw the news conference. The President was fantastic.
He wasn't falling on his sword he was instead giving a heartfelt "sorry" for the atrocities committed against the prisoners.
I am proud of the President. He might have just gotten us out of a mess that a few very sick soldiers created.

Bush was right to the say he was sorry. Now we should go in there and take care of Fallujah and Sadr the sadist. Clean up the mess.

After reading of the pain these jerks cause our active duty freepers,I not only approve of the President's apology,I want all the jerks involved in this prison abuse and muggers for the camera to appear before an audience of a million representatives of our armed forces.
I demand thejerks express their apology and grief over casting a stain on the honor of our brave and innocent armed forces and this nation.I think their Commander,Lt.Gen. Kapinski should go first.

This is an outrage!!! The only reason why Bush apologized is because HE KNEW that today was the day that Kerry was going to apologize to the Vietnamese he admitted he tortured, killed and burned. He knew Kerry was going to apologize today and only made his amends for political gain and for the good 'ol boys. Some people are saying that Rumsfeld knew two weeks ago that Kerry was going to apologize.
Heads will roll on this one folks. Some are thinking that Bush had a mole in the DNC to tip him that today John Kerry was going to apologize for the killing and torturing of enemies in Vietnam.

It goes deeper than one man or one prison. Power tends to corrupt a Republic when it tries to be an Empire and police the world. Acton summed it up long ago. Many conservatives seem to have forgotten that basic insight.
To: Republican Red
Listen, I am conservative through and through, but the actions of a scum-ridden extremist sect of the Arab world is not an accurate reflection of the Arab community as a whole. Although every Arab nation battles with the threat of terrorism (And indeed, many nations are quietly turning their heads to it or funding it all together - but these are not the majority) most of them are trying hard to shed that image and advance into the global democratic way of life.
President Bush's apology was of absolute importance, especially thanks to the heavy usage of propaganda in our election season. Ultimately, (if this isn't some "liberal conspiracy" as I've read many posts on, and seem plausible) those torture videos must not be seen by the rest of the world as definitive of the entire US military. The release of these atrocities on film scares me--as it gives Al Jazeera new "proof" that America is looking to turn Iraq into a puppet-state (which is, of course, obsurd).

Whaaaah? sKerry's going to apologize to the Vietnamese he admitted he tortured, killed and burned?! Kind of hard to do that John... they're dead!

The President SHOULD NOT apologize. Being in command means you're responsible even for the things nobody tells you about. An explanation is owed - not only to the Iraqi but also to the American people - and Bush should be the one to deliver it. If he has no explanation, then an apology for his failure to oversee the troops is necessary. Bush either explains, apologizes or abdicates his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief.

I'm sorry, but the deafening silence we've gotten from the Moslem world since 911, including after all of the atrocities of their own kind were uncovered, and continue to be committed each and every day by mad Moslem murderers that go unanswered, have led me to the conclusion that people like YOU are the wild-eyed, irrational, naive ones that do not understand the nature of the Moslem enemy, rather than the people who recognize these monsters for what they are and fight them tooth and claw.
President Bush's "apology" was political theatre. It carried no moral weight with any of the mad Moslem perpetrators of atrocities far worse, and no moral weight with any others who aid and abet their depradations. He would have shown REAL strength of purpose and resolve by NOT "apologizing" to these mad Moslem freaks AT ALL.
To: Republicus2001
Actually, Bush didnt apologize, he just said he was sorry.
Like, we're all sorry that Kerry took a Purple Heart while getting no more than a self inflicted scratch on his arm, but we're not apologizing. Its not our fault he's a weasely worm.

Replace it with a memorial to those who were abused and murdered by Saddam Hussein on that site.If liberating the Iraqis from Saddam's brutal regime hasn't won their hearts and minds, what the hell is a stupid memorial honoring some "abused" Baathist thugs going to do? Sheez!

He's absolutely right about leveling as well. We ought to pull all the prisoners out to camps in the desert and drop a MOAB right into the middle of the accursed place. What we were doing occupying it in the first place?
If we are going to be a great nation, we have to act like one. When we screw up we investigate, punish the guilty, correct ourselves, apologize, and build from there.
President Bush is right to apologize for this. It is the only thing he should apologize for, IMHO. But it was absolutely right to apologize for this.

I'm with you on this one! The Iraqis are absolutely NUTS, as are ALL Moslems. Here we've liberated them from the atrocities of a genocidal maniac and, within months, they seem to be clamoring for a return to the "good ol' days" of rape, REAL torture, mutilation, and mass murder. Which is better in their twisted minds, by definition, than freedom and liberty, because at least they're being maimed and killed by their own "holy" Moslem brothers. These people are beyond bizarre!
To: Triple Word Score
Yes, King Hussein (of Jordan) WAS a Moslem freak, at bottom. So what if the guy married an American. Apparently his loyalty to her didn't include denouncing, along with the US, the outright genocidal murder and mayhem he was witness to, and let slide, right next door to his little kingdom. In fact, when push came to shove, his loyalty was to a homicidal maniac rather than the civilized world.

Another American was taken hostage today and we still have a soldier in a hostage situation. I think that may be why our President apologised. I'm not sure I agree but it does keep us on the up and up with the Arab nations working for us.

Hmmm. Did you see the speeches yesterday afternoon?
I'm just wondering if we're watching the same history unfold here. I saw two allies side-by-side, exhausted from staying up hammering out plans and strategies, letting the world know that America does have allies in the region who will fight with us shoulder-to-shoulder against terror.
