I see...I was a bit surprised by the way he said it. I thought that to really be part the Diaspora, a Jew had to keep his identity anyway.

That's totally fine by me. Jews have proven time and time again how they can share the soul of any nation and still maintain distinct traditions and culture.

Well they should, but practically it's much harder. Practically every country but Israel has a Jewish intermarriage rate of around 50%.
