Arkansas Debate Focuses on Pregnant Illegals (abortion)

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Prenatal exams have become the newest addition to the abortion debate, now that Arkansas is making fetuses eligible for federally-funded health care benefits.

Under recently adopted guidelines in the state, the unborn child of a pregnant illegal immigrant can be considered an American citizen even before birth, and thus qualifies the mother for government-paid prenatal care.

Since Medicaid (search) doesn’t cover adults who are non-citizens, whether they’re in the U.S. legally or not, the unborn fetus will now have rights the mother doesn’t have, in addition to being considered an American citizen in the eyes of the federal government.

Starting July 1, Arkansas joins Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Washington in using Medicaid dollars for “undocumented alien unborn coverage.” The Arkansas Department of Human Services (search) says it’s not trying to make a political point on where life begins, but just trying to offer better health care.

Pro-choice advocates worry this could be a step toward outlawing abortion.

"The definition that the state of Arkansas is providing is that life begins at conception,"siad Marvin Schwartz of Arkansas Planned Parenthood

I am usually totally against any benefits or advantage given to illegals - but in this case - if it helps to prevent abortions, maybe it's worth it....

I just wonder what this is all going to cost us....

can be considered an American citizen even before birth

I would think this label entitles the child to the right not to be murdered. Do the unborn BABIES have to get a SSN to receive federal $$$? If so, that makes them people and not just pre-birth matter.

Not our problem. Deport all illegals. Take away their jobs via RICO for all employers hiring illegals. Take away all taxpayer subsidies and anchor baby laws. They'll deport themselves. If employers face confiscation of their businesses, they'll find a way to pay American citizen taxpaying workers.

"the unborn child of a pregnant illegal immigrant can be considered an American citizen even before birth"

Can be but shouldn't. Besides, the supposed immigration status of the unborn child shouldn't be any factor at all as it is the mother being treated.

Maybe this is what the NOW types meant the other day, hollering about keeping the government out of their wombs.

Prove they were conceived in the U.S.

I just wonder what this is all going to cost us....

prenatal care and delivery will cost us maybe ten thousand for each pregnancy.

But one premature baby born too soon and very sick because his mom didn't get prenatal care may cost half a million dollars in newborn nursery care alone.

Think of it as insurance

Oh, what the hey. Let's just make everyone on Earth a U.S. citizen and declare them all eligible for everything.

We'll face societal dissolution rather quickly, instead of stringing it out as we are now.

(COPY AND DISTRIBUTE WIDELY. Revise and extend as you see fit, start a movement, print a petition, start a political party, confront your legislators, write letters, post posters, drop leaflets, demand, demand, demand…)

18 POINT ACTION PLAN: Border Violators

1) Close all US borders to illegal entry forthwith by any and all means possible, including military presence.

2) Maintain legitimate immigration levels at modest annual level with requirements that immigrants be employable or sufficiently wealthy for self-support if they do not intend to work, proficient in basic English and willing to be assimilated into American culture and language. All applicants shall provide prints, photos and DNA samples.

3) Legal immigration shall be awarded to individuals on a lottery basis, wherein all countries are given equal status in the immigration lottery, without regards to color or economic plight of originating nation.

4) Individuals of Islamic faith (muslims) from any country shall be denied immigration privileges or entry into the US. Christians and Jews from muslim countries fleeing religious persecution shall receive preferential and accelerated immigration privileges.

5) Detain all border violators, taking photos, prints and DNA samples of said violator while at the same time, checking for out standing warrants. If no warrants are outstanding, return border violators to home country within 20 days via commercial airline and submit cost of such action, including processing and housing costs for said violator, to country of origin. If costs are not paid within 30 days, reduce any and all aid to said country by a like amount.

6) Should any country from which a border violator originates not currently receive any aid from the US, the Justice Department shall be authorized to seize or secure liens on assets owned, managed or registered to that country to the full extent of the obligation.

7) Establish new Guest Worker Visa (GWV) category, renewable every six (6) months, for unskilled labor positions wherein all applicants shall provide prints, photos and DNA samples. Work permitted of such applicants shall be limited to one of several categories, including childcare, lawn/gardening, restaurant staff, cleaning, and the like. Families of GWV workers are not permitted to enter US, nor will the birth of a child in the U.S. to one of GWV status confer citizenship to either parent or child.

8) Any violation of civil or criminal laws shall result in the forfeiture of the GWV and immediate return to originating country.

9) GWV holders shall be prohibited from claiming unemployment benefits, welfare support or free medical service.

10) The originating country of all GWV holders shall be responsible for any loss caused by their citizens, including emergency medical claims and claims resulting from illegal acts committed while in the US.

11) Companies that hire GWV holders shall submit to the Immigration Dept the name and GWV number of that individual, along with a description of employment tasks. Companies that fail to report employment of GWV workers, or hire border violators, shall be subject to fines and penalties. GWV workers shall not be subject to unemployment tax because they shall not be eligible to receive unemployment compensation. GWV workers shall be paid with check, having income tax withheld.

12) Border violators, or any non-citizen not possessing a valid visa, detained by local police for any reason shall be turned over to border control officials for immediate deportation action, except if they face criminal charges in other jurisdictions.

13) Border violators and GWV workers shall be prohibited from voting in local, state and federal elections.

14) Border Violators shall NOT be afforded the rights enjoyed by American citizens, as guaranteed under the constitution.

15) Public education (at institutions supported by taxpayer dollars) at any level (pre-school, kindergarten through the university level,) shall NOT be available to Border Violators (or children of Border Violators) and schools that enroll such individuals shall be subject to penalties.

16) Foreign Students (F/S) (individuals admitted to the U.S. for the purpose of attending any educational facility,) private institution or public (i.e. supported by taxpayer dollars,) must have valid student visas, such visas being in force only if the F/S attends school full-time. F/S shall be required to pay tuition, housing and related costs such that all their educational costs are fully reimbursed to the institution attended. The originating country shall pay for any and all loss caused by students while on U.S. soil.

17) Border Violators seeking emergency medical treatment shall provide pictures, fingerprints and DNA samples along with country of origin, and shall be treated then incarcerated until information provided can be verified. Originating country shall bear the costs of medical treatment and confinement.

18) Children born in the U.S. to border violators, illegal aliens or of foreign nationals in the U.S. for any reason (including temporary visitor, school or work visas,) shall not be eligible for citizenship as circumstances of birth, nor shall the parents or parent’s family members (relatives) be conferred U.S. citizenship as a result of such births.

Point taken.

Even better - stop them at the border/immediate deportation - would be even cheaper insurance.

Hey - I've got an idea -

How about we bill President Fox of Mexico every time we have to render care for one of his "folks"....

The problem I have with this is that if the illegal has an exam, how could they deport them? This baby is considered a citizen, but the mother is not. I thought you had to be BORN in the US to be a citizen, not conceived/carried/examined. In that case, that would make the child of a pregnant tourist a citizen if the mother had some bleeding and is examined. That would also mean a pregnant American that is on vacation outside the country that has the same examination done, would be carrying a foreigner. Would she be arrested for smuggling an illegal alien into the country upon returning to the US?

This is a very dangerous path to go down, this is not needed. I should not have to pay for these peoples children, when they should not even be here.

Don't kid yourself, this will not prevent abortions. This is just another way to get more constituents to vote for their party. Not allowing this will not cause more abortions, illegals know that if you are born here you are a citizen. We have people that are citizens that their parents are illegals.

Been following this epidemic of illegals in America for about a year when we had others now gone from FR bring the details to light.

I have not heard yet why? our govt. leaders turn a deaf ear and even encourage it with federal programs.

Now I have watched the population and culture of S.America move comfortably into all of our communities. Even the local paper advertises training courses for food servers in Spanish for non speaking English.

It has been allowed by our leaders for the influx of illegals under the guise of migrant workers.

The illegal immigrants are here to stay I am afraid to say. They have populated and become part of our infrastructure regardless of how they came here.

I think it is wrong that a illegal can come to our country and work and live with no legal status.

The illegal immigrant work force is here to stay regardless of laws and our politicians, legislators and govt. has allowed it.

Remember that when you vote.

I also don't think an unborn child should suffer because of the lawlessness of our Govt. and if I lived in Mexico knowing America was allowing the flow of illegal immigrants I would come here too.

So I can't blame those coming here to work either. I don't agree with it but I don't blame them.

We are going to suffer by using these people for a cheap work force. Big time it is going to bite us right in the ass.

Just the other day the hosp. had warning signs of an epidemic of whooping cough posted throughout the facility. Other plagues such as TB will crop up. Maybe one of the reasons the govt. is so generous with clinics so they can nip any outbreaks in the bud.

My thought too which soil were they conceived on.

Doesn't matter to the clincs collecting fed/state/county $$$$ to provide services.

Wrong yes, but I agree with LadyDoc that better to have a healthy baby than a sick baby in the NICU and possible lifelong health issues/costs.
