Former CIA Official: U.S. May Fall Like USSR
News Max ^ | May. 5, 2004 | Phil Brennan

Posted on 05/05/2004 3:50:32 PM PDT by yonif

Herb Meyer is calling for a holy war to save western civilization. But the former Reagan CIA official has a problem: Most people don’t know what it is he wants to save.

"We’ve forgotten what Western civilization is," Meyer told NewsMax.com. "We no longer teach it in the schools. If you come to the schools where I live and ask a group of high school students ‘what is Western Civilization?’ They’ll tell you it’s slavery, the oppression of women and we don’t recycle.”

But Western Civilization is not made up of our faults; all civilizations have those. Meyer contends, “It’s the rule of law, the idea of individual and economic rights, scientific inquiry - this is important stuff and our failure to teach our children what Western Civilization is may be the worst mistake we’ve ever made."

Meyer was not one just to ride into the sunset after his government service with Ronald Reagan. During the 1980s he served as Special Assistant to the Director of Central Intelligence, William J. Casey. Meyer played a key role in helping Ronald Reagan and Bill Casey win the cold war. Meyer was also one of the first analysts to predict the breakup of the Soveit empire.

Now, this former CIA analyst says it’s the U.S. and the West that may just crackup.

In fact, he has just produced a new video, The Siege of Western Civilization," that makes his point, and explains to Americans what we need to save.

Meyer also had a distinguished career in journalism. He's a former associate editor of Fortune, author of several books and dozens of published essays about politics and economics.

Meyer has put together the case – sometimes in shocking detail - the continuing assault on the very underpinnings of the civilization which has produced the concepts of religious and individual freedom, economic liberty, and the rule of law which have guided mankind for centuries.

This foundation of civilization led to a flowering of art and literature, monumental scientific discoveries and a living standard unmatched in all history.

But now Meyer is worried Americans today are willing to lose it all because they have no idea of how it all came about.

He argues that there has been an assault against Western civilization.

This attack he sees as three pronged:

A new civil war fought against the existence of any moral code governing conduct

A war against the kind of population growth required to sustain a nation’s economy and the welfare of its elderly people

An attack by a brand of Islam which seeks nothing less than to subjugate the Western world. This video is available on dvd or cassette, and is one every high school student in America and their parents should see.

Meyer tackles all three threats and explains what has to be done if Western Civilization and its incredible benefits are not to be vanquished.

"People want to be talked to seriously about the issues that confront us," Meyer explained. "They want to be talked to about the war, about our culture and about our economy. What they need more than anything else, is a way to pull it together, to connect the dots so that they have a context for following the news and for understanding what’s happening out there, and that’s what we tried to do in the video: To give them that context, to connect the dots, for them."

Population Suicide

You don’t hear much about it, but the Western world and Japan are in the process of committing population suicide – and America is not far behind.

Current birthrates in England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and in Japan are far below what its required for a society to reproduce itself and sustain a healthy economy.

Russia is a population basket case. To reproduce itself, the birthrate must be 2.1 children per family. In Europe it’s almost half that, and in the U.S. it’s now 2.0 and headed down. In a mere 20 years, the population of some European nations and Japan will have dropped by an astonishing 30 percent.

"We seem to have forgotten what every primitive society understands: you need children," Meyer told NewsMax.com.

"They are a blessing obviously, but from a practical point of view they are consumers which an economy needs and then they grow up and become taxpayers. If you don’t have a big enough tax base you simply cannot generate the wealth to take care of the older people.

"And that’s what’s happening in Western Civilization today. We simply don’t have enough working age people to support the retired people.

"It’s the worst in Europe and Japan and we are obviously on the same trajectory. We can see what’s happening in Europe and Japan, so we have some time to deal with it."

Meyer says a second civil war is being waged against the culture of Western Civilization by hordes of neo-barbarians.

No Rules

"Back in the 1960s we just decided to throw away the rule book. We said ‘You don’t need rules anymore; everybody do whatever you want. If it feels good, do it.' That was a terrible mistake and we’re paying a price for it now. We expanded rights but no one wants to take responsibilities. You have to match the two. If you’re going to have more rights, you have to have more responsibility, but we want the rights without the responsibility."

And there is a worldwide war of terrorism against Western Civilization being waged by the fanatical wing of Islam.

Radical Islam Wants Us Gone

While noting that there are millions of good and decent Muslims in the world Meyer warns that "There is within Islam a radical streak and when the radicals are in charge, Islam attacks Western Civilization.

"It did that in the 7th century, it did again in the 15th and 16th centuries, and it’s doing it now in the 21st century. What we call the War on Terror, is in fact radical Islam’s third attack on Western Civilization. Terrorism is the tactic they are using."

Meyer insists, "We have to go back and understand just what it is we are fighting for. And when you understand Western Civilization then you have a very clear sense of who the enemy is, what they are attacking and why it’s worth defending."

At least now I have a good excuse for buying another case of .223 ammo.

My friend, all it would take is a dirty bomb to go off in Manhattan and our economy would be shredded. The loss of lives and jobs and the collapse of the dollar would paralyze our financial resources and create societal chaos.

And actually, the civics lessons they teach in school are not making much of an impact...

Good article.

The reason America will fall is because of Liberals. Period.

Liberals have exactly the wrong view of human nature and what America is all about. They are the termites in our culture and are encouraging the other nests of termites (Muslims and other unassimilated turd world illegal aliens, bringing their cultures with them, insisting we adopt to them) to come on in and start chewing at the foundations, which are are already shaky.

When we lose our history and our shared culture, we will lose our country. We are getting close to that point now where we won't have a nice stew but an oil and water mixture.

"Meanwhile, we'll respect their religion until they take us over and either subject us or wipe us out. It may not happen within 20 years, but it could. More likely within 30 or 40 though. Simple math on reproduction rates coupled with current demographic data should paint the picture clearly."

Protection is promised no matter what "IF" we follow the instruction given. Unfortunately, this nation has tooooo many fat happy forgetful people that willingly ignore what is required, all done building their own go along get along salvation.

Christ warned when asked what would be the sign of his return "Take heed lest ye be deceived". Now I consider the Clintons professional seducers and two thirds of this nations approved of the job they did.

What's your point? Not all people in the south owned slaves.

The Senate today is polarized (and in a constant state of fillibuster) almost along identical lines, but for different political reasons. (urban versus agrarian)

If George W. Bush wins the 2004, I will place a $$ wager that John Kerry will challenge the election in the court system (ala 2000) and the Senate democRATS will cause a constitutional crisis, and W will be forced to take extreme measures - because we are at WAR with Islaminazi's (as you correctly state), and the survival of the republic will be at stake.

Sorry, I just don't see it. You need to have Americans willing to kill other Americans to have a civil war. Where is the evidence of that? You think they're gonna kill one another over gay marriage?? And where is this Muslim menace in the United States?? The Muslim population is only about 3% or something like that and at their rate of growth it would take at least another century to make it to even 10%, if it keeps up.

And our system is simply not made for civil war. You need a State or group of States to somehow take control of a viable military force. How does that happen these days?? We don't have our military forces divided into State contingents or militias or whatever like we used to. Say, for example, that North Carolina decided to secede. OK, we've got Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune - we're looking good! But, wait.. The soldiers and Marines are from all over the country. Why would they fight for North Carolina against their home states??

It's just not gonna happen. Sorry people, but we aren't even anywhere close to another civil war. The whole concept is utterly laughable. For us to get from here to secessions and civil wars and collapsing like the Soviet Union we are talking about dramatic, spectacular alterations in our current social, political, economic, and military posture. We are talking about apocalyptic scenarios and this is just all so much foolishness....

Well, you are arguing against homeschooling then.

I personally think that second generation Americans always assimilate well into the greater American civilization. Of course, there might be a few kids who are raised in the closet and taught to hate America. Hard to believe though.

I can certainly accept the idea that Western Civilization might lose its fundamental moorings, and even the less likely idea that we might decline out of superpower status, but the idea that we will have a civil war and that the nation will fall apart is ludicrous in any foreseeable scenario..

We are one step ahead of a civil upheaval and economic breakdown. The Russians went through the economic breakdown without the civil upheaval. We should feel fortunate if we are so lucky.

Not homeschooling. I am talking about Mosques and Islamic schools around this country which preach militant Islam.

"This author is making predictions based upon a straightline extrapolation of current trends. Nature abhors a straight line. As for Radical Islam taking over Europe: I'm betting on a backlash, and soon. If they ever reach their military potential, the Arabs better lookout."

Good point, but think Rome.

How can you say that with a straight face? We have an illegitimate activist judiciary turning our Constitution inside out, we have public official urinating on the written law, and the increasingly vicious tone of liberal (especially) activism are all signs heralding deeper divisions to come.

I have no problem thinking Rome, but just keep in mind that the Roman Empire abided for another two centuries longer than we have so far - and did so in an era where centralized control was far, far more difficult than it is in modern times.

No offense, but you're whistling past the graveyard. This country's debt exposure is incomprehensible. There would be a Depression on a par if not worse than the 1930's. The dollar would be worthless and money would pour into China, instead...

Sigh. I understand what you're saying, but I think you are predicting that under the context of some kind of structured society. It would take a complete societal breakdown to bring civil war, but I disagree that it's an impossibility -- especially with the deep emotional divisions in this country.
