Hi BossLady! Thanks for sending this.

I'm no fan of the CIA. I'm reading this as one individuals opinion. He's got some valid points.

The birthrate among natural born American citizens is in decline. It has been in decline for many decades. The only reason our birthrate does not show a deeper decline is due to immigrants now populating our country. Many people blame abortion. The greater truth points to the birth control pill, two consecutive generations that have collectively postponed having children until they can afford them. Too often that becomes never.

Another reason for the decline is the change in demographics of our country over the last century. When we were a rural farming population, large families meant more hands to work the land and greater economic return for their efforts. My own grandmother was one of 22 children by the same mother. Each child had an individual bedroom! Current economic conditions are just the opposite. More children brings poverty to families in this modern world.

I keep having this strong gut feeling the reason 78% of Congress (Senators and Representatives) are in favor of leniency toward illegal immigrants is in play here. The views of Congress are completely opposite of the citizens they serve. Eighty percent of citizenship wants more stringent immigration policies. Is Congress looking to immigrants to one day shoulder Social Security and be the defenders our nation?

Where the author contends Western Civilization is under attack, that is true, but not because our enemy has grown strong. We have grown weak. While he faults the sixties, the seeds were sown immediately following WWII.

As far as radical Islam wanting us gone, it also want moderate Islam gone. By way of moderate Islam will not fighting radical Islam, they have given approval for this attack on Western Civilization. By the same token, we want radical Islam gone. We will need to fight the entire body of Islam to accomplish that end.

Our leaders, for need to be politically correct, are still looking for the words to convey this message. If WWII had started in our times rather then when it did, we wouldn't be fighting the Japs and Nazis. We would be fighting "the German terrorist and the Japanese insurgents. If our leaders could muster the courage they would tell us we are fighting Islam.

For a former CIA official, he should be telling our leadership what most common people already know. There is a world war right now. The USA, United Kingdom, India, Russia, Spain, Thailand, the Philippines, France, Italy, Turkey, Syria, Israel, Iraq, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt and numerous other countries have been hit. Radical Islam is to blame.

Unfortunately, we live in an "enlightened" time where laying responsibility on the perpetrators of any crime is seen as laying the seeds of hate. The war is on, and it's much bigger then even our president admits. What devastating world event will have to occur before our "enlightened" western leadership unites to fight an already united enemy?

Lastly, we've become a nation that places much higher value on wealth then liberty itself. Generally speaking, if it makes money, people accept it as good, whatever "it" may be. As a nation we've lost our good values. Our cities have people, but not communities. Owning a new car or house is of greater importance then having children. We allow the future generations to be leveraged into certain economic slavery. Planning for the future has been pushed aside by the "here and now", "at any cost" consumer.

Nations fall - not as in disappear, but fall from the number one spot.
From the Chin (China) through Babylon (Iraq), Rome (Italy), the Holy Roman Empire (Germany), Great Briton (England) many have had their place in the sun. None have survived with any of their power or glory except in the history books.

To: what i think
i think this slow whittling away of our rights doesn't alarm people enough.

Too true - and if we lose many more of our freedoms we will no longer be the nation we once were. We are at the point where we are hanging on primarily through military power. That is not a good sign.

And my thoughts are, with our accelerated pace, we've already achieved the decadence and decay that took the Romans the better half of a millennium to achieve.

There are close comparisons.
Rome had changed from a Republic to a dictatorship.
Rome was overextended militarily.
Rome experienced a crisis of religion; the new (Christianity) was displacing the old (Paganism).
We are also overextended militarily and are experiencing a crisis of religion, and have changed from a Republic to a Democracy to a Executiveship (?) with our Congress ceding power to the executive.

Great synopsis! I love what you said here:

"we've become a nation that places much higher value on wealth then liberty itself"

Thanks. That statement "we've become a nation that places much higher value on wealth then liberty itself", was inspired by the most prominent signer of our Declaration of Independence, John Hancock.

At the time, John Hancock was among the wealthiest of British subjects in the colonies. Remaining loyal to the British crown assured his continued wealth and prosperity, but not liberty.

None have survived with any of their power or glory

That is what is taught in public school. However, we might find, upon reflection, that Rome did not fall at all, but moved. They, the power elite, are still in operation. For a while they were in Constantinople, and later they were in London. Where are they now? Look around.

I don't know. I don't think I am a member of that fraternity, but there seems to have been some continuity in thought and government in spite of the rise and fall of empire. Some days I feel like I wake up and look around and say, Rome fell? What is this, then? It is still here, the Roman Empire is still here, strong as ever, French Revolution or not.

Baring a complete apocalyptic devastation, there will be some form of continuity.
People who rose to the top in the Roman Empire rose to the top of the Barbarian States. Ideologies live long lives, governments and empires don’t.
