the rank of Captain in 1989 Which is the same rank as Major in the other branches of service (if I remember the Naval chain of command correctly). A tick or two under Admiral.

No. A Navy CAPT is O-6, same as an Army colonel. A Navy lieutenant commander is an O-4, same as an Army major. Rear Admiral (lower half) is an O-7, same as an Army brigadier general.

Of course, both of you are right. Sorry about that. Sort of right...Captain is a few ticks under Admiral; 1 tick away from Rear Admiral

A captain in the Navy is a equivalent to a colonel (O6) in the other services, and one step below a commodore, which is flag rank in the Navy.

Seems like Kerry is trying to win this election just on righteous indignation alone.

"How DAAAARE you question my patriotism!"

"I'm TIIIIRED of this administration questioning my patriotism!"

"Rumsfeld should RESIIIIIGN over this!"

Of course, that's enough for a lot of Democrats to vote for.

If I'm not mistaken, Condy Rice got a traffic citation when she was 19; so according to Kerry, she'll have to go.

And I believe Dick Cheney once got a parking ticket during college...so naturally, he'll have to go too!

Way to go John. . . nothing like demonstrating to everyone just how incredibly ignorant you can be!

Can you imagine this thing as President???

Canada; here I come!

I dig Rummy, but in a note of criticism-- I think his transformation to a more soldierless army has been proven to be a bad idea by the postwar experience in Iraq. It's clear, we still need more boots. Bombers and jets and air force goodies are fine, but you're always going to need boots on the ground.

My Fantasy Follow-Up Story:

"Rumsfield Calls on Kerry to Drop Dead"

LOL! I can picture Rummy saying that.

Thanks for the feedback from several of my fellow FREEPERs. Everyone once and a while I get nutty and get the chain of command from service to service all screwy

Thanks for straightening me out.

I knew the liberals were after Rumsfeld as soon as I heard dear Hillary shoot her mouth off about the "chain of command."

As usual, the sensitive Republicans have enboldened liberals to cut us off at the knees.

I may be late with this, but a Navy Captain equals a full Colonel in the other branches. A Lieutenant Commander equals a Major.

Almost. A commodore is the name given to a CAPT (O-6) who commands a squadron of ships or an air wing. O-7 is rear admiral, lower half. O-8 is rear admiral, upper half. O-9 is vice admiral, O-10 is admiral, O-11 is fleet admiral, not used since World War II for the admirals who won the war.
