It's my take that the President through his *top* advisers and others are falling all over themselves apologizing, instead of having some low level military commander over in that damn country make a brief comment of regret, and then shut up.

***********************************************************

Condoleezza Rice, Bush's national security adviser, apologized for the abuse in interviews yesterday with three Arabic television networks.

"We are deeply sorry for what has happened to these people and what the families must be feeling. It's just not right. And we will get to the bottom of what happened," Condoleezza Rice, the president's national security adviser, told the Dubai-based Arab channel Al-Arabiya.

"I couldn't be angrier," Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage said of the abuses. "I couldn't be sadder about them. And, frankly, I couldn't be sorrier that some Iraqi prisoners had to suffer from this humiliation.

Ok, Joe, let me ask you a question from your reply #381, would you rather have a Kerry administration calling the shots.

JMO, but I will get no reply. Afterall you can't out yourself as a Katie/Kerry supporter on FR.

Perhaps a bit of Clintonian empathy detected, I have to say.

But, I still think the Presidents performance today was strong and forceful.

Personally, I think this prisoner abuse scandal has been blown out of all proportions by the media. Perhaps the behaviour of the administration has played into the media's hands. Perhaps, not. Perhaps, it will help many Iraqis to trust the U.S.

These are difficult decisions.

The Presidents performance today leads me to believe the administration made the right decision.

Cheers.
