We could've won both of them with massive raids on China at the time..

LeMay wanted to in Korea. McNamara again in Vietnam.

We took the moral high road on both. We still face Korea, and Vietnam is lost.

I have the will to win this war.

I understand that some of my morals preclude using certain tactics and methods that may be effective, and that the war may go on longer than otherwise necessary. But that is the consequence of my beliefs.

Therefore, "will to win" and morality are not polar opposites.

Negotiating with animals has to be a sign of a mental disease.

As are posting statements that have nothing to do with the facts at hand...

Are you suggesting we haven't been negotiating in Najaf and actually up and down in this war all over?

No, you didn't.

But I felt compelled to correct you since you were wrong.

It's very obvious who the overly emotional ones are, and who aren't......

I don't care what Condi Rice or Armitage said. YOU are the one who said he went on world-wide television to apologize, and he did not. Furthermore, you have not sourced your excerpt, so I don't know who wrote those quotes.

And frankly, I don't particularly care if you find it offensive. You find EVERYTHING offensive, as far as this administration goes.

I was merely corecting the record for any lurkers who might be reading. And now that the transcript is up, they can see it for themselves.

Ever come into the tail end of a conversation and blurt something out that has already been proven false earlier in the conversation?

Perhaps a bit of Clintonian empathy detected, I have to say.

But, I still think the Presidents performance today was strong and forceful.

Personally, I think this prisoner abuse scandal has been blown out of all proportions by the media. Perhaps the behaviour of the administration has played into the media's hands. Perhaps, not. Perhaps, it will help many Iraqis to trust the U.S.

These are difficult decisions.

The Presidents performance today leads me to believe the administration made the right decision.

Cheers.

As long as you draw that line in a place that doesn't so hamper the ability to fight the war, then what you have said is true. And I'm not saying that you don't draw it in an unwinnable place.

But I think a lot of people do place moral limitations and political limitations on how we can fight this war that would make it unwinnable.

As you know... I'm in the bomb em until they surrender group. I'm not in favor of getting our guys shot up. I think we have a clear tactical advantage with our airforce and I would use it until they can stop it. Just like football.... if they can't defend the long ball, then you throw it every play until they can.

Certainly winning the war by dropping bombs alone will hit a lot of unintended targets. But I would rather do that than get our guys shot up. That's the bottom line.

LeMay wanted to in Korea.

Actually, we would've expended our entire early-1950s nuclear arsenal to no real discernable effect, and effectively disarmed ourselves for about six months, whereupon Stalin would've taken Western Europe without much of a fight.

Was "winning" in Korea worth losing Western Europe?

McNamara again in Vietnam.

Actually, he didn't want to nuke China. And nuking China wouldn't have altered the situation on the ground in Vietnam.

We took the moral high road on both.

In neither case was the "moral high road" an issue. Thank you for proving your ignorance.

So now, instead of killing the enemy or capturing them and then softening them up so they will tell us where and when they will attack next, we should send in a division of social workers and build up their self esteem. This way they will see the true path to freedom? Give me a break.

GWB, if he is serious about this, would he have authorized torture before 9-11 if their was credible evidence that a certain captured terrorist could fortell the future of attacks? GWB has yet to decide if we are fighting a war to the death or if this is just a globalist exercise to maintain the power structure of the world elite.

Every day words and actions like this make me sicker and sicker because the result is certain defeat for GWB and the United States. There is no victory in losing.

The President wasn't speaking to the terrorists.

But, he mentioned them and they will be destroyed.

I do not know why I thought you were female. Sorry. I had it in my head that you were an American married to a Norwegian. Sorry for the confusion!

Now I have to make a different mental image of you! :-)

The Arabs are also seeing porno pictures on TV misrepresented as rape by our troops. I wonder if they will think that the President's personal attention to this matter gives the pictures validity.

Isn't it remarkable that the emotional reactors still don't know what the President actually said?

No.........I guess it's not remarkable. Thoughtful people always wait for the evidence to draw conclusions.

These people are NOT thoughtful people.

In this case, yes. I do not believe an apology is required. We should have publicly acknowledged that what was done is wrong and did not reflect the way that we do business, and that those responsible will be punished. And that should have been that.

Everyone wants to believe that this is the first time something like this has ever happened in the history of the American Military. Please, let's have a reality check here folks. This was not even torture, it was humiliation. There have been more serious hazing incidents in this country perpetrated by cheeleaders. And as far as the military goes, you can be sure that our military has seen fit to really get down and torture the enemy when it felt it was required to get the job done. A chemical light up the bum is nothing in comparison th what wars have caused us to do in the past. We have firebombed entire cities into ash, we have used nuclear weapons on Japan, twice! So don't go and get squeamish when a few Iraqis have compromising photos taken of them. This faux outrage is a joke!

But no, we have to beat it into the ground and keep bowing down trying to win the approval of the Arab World. Yeah, like that is going to happen anytime soon. Meanwhile, I wonder how many of our guys died in Iraq today. I wonder which cleric in that crap hole of a country is going to apologize to their families. Where is the apology from the Islamic world in general for 911, the Cole, Khobar Towers, Marine Barracks, etc... ad nauseum.
