Dems point to Coors' e-mails
Rocky Mountain News ^ | May 4, 2004 | Lynn Bartels

Two years ago, back when Pete Coors was just another Colorado Republican, he attacked the Democratic Party in an exchange of e-mails.

Now he's a U.S. Senate candidate who's talking about bringing people together.

A Democratic organization is posting those missives online under the headline "Peter Coors - Bitter Beer Man" in an attempt to show that the brewery heir is more conservative than he or his supporters would have Colorado believe.

The e-mails were written by Coors and Jim Gibson, director of the Colorado Democratic Leadership Council, after Gibson posted what he believes was a nonpartisan message on the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

very cool .. makes me want to buy a six pack of Coors! ;-) Following the thread, here is a good recap with links on his email and right on assessment of the Democratic Party. This man has it right on in my book!!

Following taken from this link

On the first anniversary of 9/11, the Colorado DLC e-mailed a New Dem Daily, entitled “Never Forget: We're Still Under Attack.”  The commentary focused “on the work still to be done to secure our safety as a nation.”  In the spirit of bipartisanship, it went on, “We still have to show resolve and unity on a continuing basis, so that our enemies do not again make the mistake of believing we will surrender to their demands the moment any sacrifice is required.”

Incredibly, that unifying message caused Coors to lose his partisan temper and spew wildly, inaccurate accusations.  On the same day he contributed $25,000 to the Colorado Republican Committee, his email response to the DLC included, “It’s your party that has continually tried to reduce the defense budget. It was leaders in your party who demanded that the FBI and the CIA not cross communicate. It was leaders in your party who prevented the FBI and the CIA from hiring the type of ‘unsavory’ individuals who might have uncovered the plot against our country.  It was your (?) President that had not the courage to react aggressively to continuous assaults on U.S. assets and individuals around the world.”

After thanking Coors for his feedback, the Colorado DLC responded with three specific examples of national security policy disagreements that New Democrats have had with the Bush administration.  (See the full transcript of the emails).  It concluded by requesting a meeting to discuss these important issues.

Coors replied, “I doubt that it would be very constructive for us to meet. We have way too many fundamental differences... You believe that George Bush stole the presidencey (sic). I believe the democrats (sic) stole the Senate leadership. We'll just have to see what happens in November.”

I feel like I'm in conservative heaven with Coors and Schaffer running. Either one would be great!

I met them both last Saturday at our county assembly and they are quite impressive to talk with. Coors made a good speech and did a lot of mingling with the delegates. Schaffer had to leave early but he also made a lot of contacts.

Quoting Pete Coors, from the above post:

It’s your party that... reduce(d) the defense budget....who demanded that the FBI and the CIA not cross communicate.... who prevented the FBI and the CIA from hiring the type of ‘unsavory’ individuals who might have uncovered the plot ... It was your (?) President that had not the courage to react aggressively to continuous assaults on U.S. assets

Damn, he just got my vote (if I lived in Colorado). The Dems are sending this out to try an hurt him?

Man, oh man, are they slow.

It's so easy for Republicans to tell when they're on the right track. Just listen for the Democrat caterwauling about how "unfair" and "mean spirited" we are.

I may have to re-evaluate the situation entirely. I've never drinked Coors' beer. I probably should. Alot of the barley hops comes from the barley in many western states, including Montana. Coors brewing is a great American tradition.

A voice in the Democratic Wilderness? A truly pro-American Democrat? If he is for real then McAwful,Clintons,Pelosie and the rest of the Socialist left may find their idea of a socialist/communist America blown out of the water......
