Lou Dobbs rips Tom Donovan a new one
CNN ^ | 5-2-2004 | self

Posted on 05/03/2004 9:56:28 PM PDT by Poundstone

Did anyone see Lou Dobbs rip Tom Donovan, head of the US Chamber of Commerce, a new one on "Lou Dobbs Tonight" on CNN? Lou simply pulverized Donovan over job outsourcing. Donovan had no decent response and was left floundering. I thought the two were going to get into a fistfight on TV. Way to go Lou!!!

And the ONLY reason you and the rest of the (multi)national CEO's even have a company, is because the blood and sacrifice of our Founders who loved this country, spent their honor and fortunes to establish a Representative Republic, based upon our Blessed U.S.Constitution & Bill of Rights.

Yeah!! Because the Founders fought for their and our freedom we should give up our freedom and turn over control of our companies to the government!!!

Well put!!

BTW, my family has spent it's share of blood to keep those freedoms. You have no clue. Talk to me when you write the checks and are responsible for keeping a company in business.

Naaaww ... I think you should just be able to lay-off all your overpaid American workers and hire little 12yr old girls to do your dirty work.

Especially since those little 12yr old girls won't have to be YOUR children or grandchildren ... they're somebody elses.

Aren't most foreign companies that manufacture here non-union?

Most companies are non-union. Most companies that have moved overseas are non-union...your point?

My point is that government stupidity is not the only reason that American companies want to manufacture overseas. Sometimes unions play a role.

When you invest your money in a business that writes the checks every week then you can tell me about "greed".

I actually write checks, in addition to investing my money in "businesses that write checks."

It really boils down to: do we enrich our enemies, or do we support our country. Simple as that. Previous generations had their priorities straight...and so do many of us in the younger generation.

Yeah, those 12 year olds are making such nice cars and computers lately. I suppose we shouldn't hire their parents either? They're foreigners after all.

How many employees do you keep in jobs per month? Most everyone "writes checks" to "companies that write checks". Not everyone in another country is an enemy. I support my country more than you will in your lifetime. Who said I wasn't in the "younger generation"? You seem to be all about stereotypes. Maybe you should get out more.

I agree with that. Sometimes, they just demand more than the jobs are worth. But, we have much larger problems than wages. Huge profitability bonuses, and stock options, are really creating a disaster. Instead of looking at long-term success (as the foreign manufacturers who locate here are doing), we have CEO's literally destroying companies for short-term gain. It's stunning...I don't know what else to say.

You're right ... the 12yr old children are especially well suited to your sweatshops ... they're sooo much more compliant than those pesky American workers who ask for fire-exits, careful handling of toxins, a competitive wage, etc etc etc.

The use of overseas workers for manufacturing has become a political football in a game that ignores the realities of production and distribution. Instead this activity has been given the derogatory term "outsourcing." Such condemnation ignores the realities that are necessary for the capitalistic system to be successful in what has been evolving into high tech global system. It is the methods of this network that socialistic groups are determined to destroy through Marxist propaganda techniques. Why they being targeted is because people all around the world are being touched for the first time with the free market system. Socialist hate this the way the Devil hates Christian missionaries. What makes me so puzzled is why are conservatives being influenced by these socialistic groups and the Democratic Party? It is that same Democratic party that is good for over regulation and lawsuits. If you want an example, just ask Microsoft. These Socialist Marxist are determined to destroy the same capitalist methods that have overcome the major obstacles necessary to site factories in foreign countries in order to place the manufacturing close to the distribution system. In other cases, American consumers had benefited by high quality, low cost goods.

American software manufacturers have benighted greatly by the electronic networking world wide. Microsoft alone has computers around the planet loaded with it's various operating systems. For every one job outsourced, we have more jobs coming back to the U.S. worker.

If anything has caused loss of jobs it has been over taxation, over regulation and excessive lawsuits. Such have become the three pilfers of the Democratic Party. Those who target the free market have been defined by the manifesto as "useful idiots." I would call them yahoos.

Not everyone in another country is an enemy.

I'm sorry, China is an enemy...period. The rest of your post is incoherent. For example:

I support my country more than you will in your lifetime.

What?? If you support enriching our enemies, then I don't care what you have done. You are part of the problem.

Most everyone "writes checks" to "companies that write checks".

What are you talking about? I write checks to my employees, and I invest in the stock market through my many retirement plans. Social Security won't be around for us.

You seem to be all about stereotypes.

Funny, stereotypes are what they are because...they are usually true. Hit a nerve, did I?

I meant to say, "Such have become the three pillers of the Democratic Party." Instead I said "three pilfers." I guess I was correct in both words.

You are in the "younger generation", yet you have employees and many retirement plans? Yep.

Whoops! My eyes didn't see another mistake. I wrote, "American software manufacturers have benighted greatly by the electronic networking world wide." The word "benighted" should have been "benefited."

I'd rather buy a Japanese car built in the US than an "American" car built in Mexico.

The real question is: "Why is that car built in Mexico??"

Yes, greedy CEO's can do lots of damage.

It's a good thing we have selfless politicians who will do the right thing without causing more damage./sarcasm off

Low cost...perhaps. High quality...right. Perhaps you need a trip to an antique mall. The quality of nearly all consumer goods has plummeted in just the last ten years. I am in my 30's, and am appalled.

If anything has caused loss of jobs it has been over taxation, over regulation and excessive lawsuits.

Please address my original point (conveniently ignored, as usual), regarding foreign companies building manufacturing plants here. You guys just LOVE to point out the jobs that they provide. How CAN they compete?

Oh, and call me a Marxist, or a Socialist...or yahoo? Capitalism works ONLY with a good foundation of moral values. It has failed consistently when this is not present. Why? Because greed takes over...thus the ability to rationalize slave-trading. If they could get away with it in this country, they would.

Yeah, great points.

Now which companies can you name that are hiring these 12 year olds?

You must have lots of real examples.
