WASHINGTON -- With its Humvee vehicles coming under frequent attack in Iraq, the Army is placing a rush order for 28 new armored security vehicles to be built by Textron Marine and Land Systems in New Orleans.
The ASVs, each equipped with grenade launcher and machine gun, cost about $600,000 each.

It sounds like great news for one american company. Now we only need to stop outsourcing other military equipment as well.

Surviving an RPG hit is something the M1 and M2/3 series has a hard time with as well, too. Good God' do some of the lost causes out there belive, really, that any mechanical vehice is impervious to HE? That thing sure looks a lot like a V 100 doesn't it?

Actually, I'd be happy to buy some foreign vehicles if they were already built and could be bought in a hurry and shipped to Iraq.
Other countries outsource to us, too. Textron builds the Dingo under licese from Krauss-Maffei.

Shouldn't this be outsourced to another country?

The ASV, which had been killed for unknown reason, gets a second lease on life?
Cool.

Not if we can build it here.
There may be some vehicles built overseas worth buying, like the Scarab.

I was an ASV Team Leader/Commander in Iraq, I loved her, she treated me well, got me out of many bad situations and saved my butt many times. We are doing the right thing.
